Very good game with lots of runs by both teams. It seemed like there were a lot of 8-0 spurts throughout the game. I thought Palmer settled the 'dogs down after they fell behind 3 late 3rd, early 4th. Sampson was on fire in the 3rd quarter for SK and Bolden was unstoppable in the first half. Holmes hit their free throws down the stretch which was a good sign. Early in the game they were 1 for 5. SK is really scrappy and play hard. They are pretty deep. They played 8 guys regularly. The Bulldogs caused quite a few turnovers which was the difference in the game. I kept thinking the 'dogs would put them away, but theyy really never could which is a credit to the Pioneers. A good test for both teams.

The Dogs seemed to wake up a bit once SK took the six point lead early in the fourth. Englemon was huge with boards, buckets and a few points. Palmer was quiet for most of the night but had a few key buckets down the stretch. First time seeing Bolden play and he's a very smooth player, the spin move he had in the first quarter was very special. Nice to see Riley come back, he brings a bit of energy to the court. I think by the end of the season SK will be a tough out.

Holmes led by 10... 37-27 and SK went on 20-4 run to take a 47-41 lead. Holmes responded with a 13-2 run.

It was the Bolden and Sampson show, great game, I thought SK would wither down the stretch, but they hung tough, they are only going to get better. Bolden is special, he is worth the price of admission.

As good as Sampson was, Bolden was just as good and better. I'd really like to see his shooting % for the year. Kid was 9-16 tonight from the field and 8-9 from the charity stripe. Every game I've been to and seen stats, he is shooting 50% or better from the field...and most of his shots are jumpers. Not easy lay ups.

 

He also played all 32 mins tonight, which has become an every night thing. As long as he is on the floor, Holmes will be tough to beat.

 

Englemon spent the entire second quarter on the bench with 2 fouls, and Chames spent a lot of the first half on the bench with 2 fouls. SK was in the bonus before the end of the first quarter....to Holmes' credit though, their depth showed as they were able to stay in front.

 

Second half the biggest difference was Chris Englemon was on the floor. He absolutely took over when Holmes got down 6. Scored 6 straight and was blocking shots and rebounding at both ends. He has to be considered for most improved player in the region. He looks like a man among boys out there at times.

 

For Sk, Sampson started off slow but really picked it up for the Neers. He was the sole re ason for SK even being in the game late. Holmes had no answer for him. He finished 5-9 from the field and 5-10 from outside.

 

Rough night for Swanson with 7 turnovers but he is only about 90% right now. You will see that go down as the season progresses. It also didn't help his cause that he had Bolden checking him most of the game. His length makes it tough for opposing pg's.

 

I was most impressed with SK's man to man defense. Holmes had an obvious quickness advantage but SK played smart to keep Holmes from getting too many easy baskets.

I thought SK would have to come out of it at halftime because Bolden was shredding them. They did a good job of cutting off the drives with help in the 2nd half, they took him out of his rhythm for a while and Holmes was rattled, mostly Chames and Coston. Chames didn't like a non-call and then went down and committed a stupid foul afterwards. Booher pulled him immediately and he sat for a few minutes. Holmes did not adjust until early in the 4th when Palmer took over the point and Englemon got involved.
