December 6, 201213 yr Because I don't care. I could not care less if the government mandated healthcare or not. Makes no difference to me. I just think universal healthcare is a great idea. PP92 will still have healthcare regardless. Capiche? No. You are infringing on my pocketbook, on my basic rights, and that isn't okay. People need to quit sucking off the tit of the American taxpayer.
December 6, 201213 yr And business owners making a profit is bad? They want to make a profit. Therefore they are going to provide the absolute best product at a price that the consumer and producer agree upon -- its all voluntary. If they want their product to survive, they are going to have to have good workers, good work conditions, good pay, and good benefits. If the worker is unhappy, they can leave, they can go to the local or national press, they can tell their friends, their co-workers can negotiate with their boss. The government isn't going to be the hero, I assure you. If I start my own business, I can and should hire whom I want and base it on color or religion, treat them badly, and make them work on holidays. But guess what? I'm not going to get the best workers and therefore I probably won't have a decent product which means I will have a bad review, people won't like me, (just like the way some of you decide not to eat at papa johns) and I will end up failing. That is the only type of regulations I am for. Was the government behind it? No. It wasn't needed. The market did its job. There are many CEO's who have ridiculous amounts of pay. Check out some of the top S&P salaries. The top corporations earn an insane amount. You blame it on the "free market'' we supposedly have. I blame it on a mixed market that I allege we have and you often advocate for with your pushing for more regulations and mandates. Question: Is our government greedy? Is it ever possible that government officials want to stuff their pockets? They should want to make a profit. My point to the rest of your comments are that greed is what has brought about the regulations, mandates, etc. Unions exist because business owners cared more about "profit" than they did about workers. And on the other side, many unions reached public disfavor because they were also greedy. It does go both ways. The EPA has reached its level of infringement because we can't trust businesses to care about anything other than profit. I wish businesses had some moral compass beyond "profit". The vast majority of them don't.
December 6, 201213 yr First, keeping the government in check and ensuring they don't entangle themselves in business they have no authority to do so is not ''complaining.'' Second, I have never stated that laws protect employees from their employers. Well, you are complaining and ignorant for saying that you are not................................couldn't resist So, you are in favor of no laws in regards to treatment of employees?

The EPA has reached its level of infringement because we can't trust businesses to care about anything other than profit. I wish businesses had some moral compass beyond "profit". The vast majority of them don't. Yes. Because if there is one thing we all have learned about our government is they are looking out for us from those evil businessman, of course. Give me a break. Unions exist because of they must use government force as a way for membership. They use protecting workers as a guise. Each and every time federal law has loosened their chains on the american worker and allowed them the choice to join a union or not, union membership has dropped... significantly. What did that do? It cut their racket. Unions all of a sudden saw a shortage of money coming their way. Unions spent 1.5 billion dollars on races. They need it. Don't tell me the greedy man is the businessman. The very last sentence is just absurd. You have a government who spies on its citizens, holds them without due process or the hope of a trial, bombs the crap out of innocent civilians overseas, a president who has a kill list, an EPA, FDA that goes way over their bounds and even has their own swat like teams. I should be okay with the government who does this dictate morality in terms of business? Sorry you'll have to use a better persuasive technique. You almost had me though.
December 6, 201213 yr No. You are infringing on my pocketbook, on my basic rights, and that isn't okay. People need to quit sucking off the tit of the American taxpayer. How in the hell am I infringing on your pocketbook? You lost me there. The American taxpayer is always going to be paying for something. I could not care less what it is. Nothing anyone can do about it.

The vast majority of them don't. The government has no business controlling greed. While it might be a sin its not illegal. And the counter-balance to greed should not be government. It should be other companies. Companies that get too greedy will be undercut by other companies or consumers will just abandon their product. Minimum wage laws are killers to entry level jobs and every base cost added to each employee is overhead - social security match, unemployment insurance, now mandatory HC coverage. At the end of the day labor cost is really a cost. And if the cost is too high companies will cut and reduce. Some say the competition will step and satisfy an unmet market while still absorbing the cost. Maybe. But maybe not. Some markets may just evaporate. No company will step in. There will be no jobs in that market. Mid tier restaurants seem ready to do just that. Every mandated cost in the service industry makes that more likely.
December 6, 201213 yr So, you are in favor of no laws in regards to treatment of employees? I think humanity would survive.
December 6, 201213 yr How in the hell am I infringing on your pocketbook? You lost me there. The American taxpayer is always going to be paying for something. I could not care less what it is. Nothing anyone can do about it. You were expressing a desire for universal health coverage. That means you want me and everyone else to pay for all of our coverage. I don't want to do that. Therefore you are digging in my pocketbook when I did not consent.
December 6, 201213 yr Just wanted to make sure you noticed. They claim that they market tested more part time employees and satisfaction dropped at those restaurants. Since they only have about 25-30% of their workers on full-time now, I imagine the intense consumer backlash to their decision had more to do with it. In any case, to conservatives I say: "Congratulations! The market worked!" Both of these restaurant chains are really struggling financially right now, they may be hoping for some free, positive publicity. I hope that no one cuts back due to Obamacare, but I'm afraid that unless there are some changes made to it, it's inevitable......

I'm in the camp that believes that someone will step up and fill any market/industry voids. That's the beauty of capitalism, right? I mean, that's what the response was when the auto industry was failing. This will take adjustment, no doubt. But since there are already companies out there who have been offering their employees health insurance LONG before AHCA, and some to even part time employees, I have no doubt that once companies get through the "I don't want you taking money out of my pocket" phase, everything will all work out. There are very large, reputable, publicly traded companies that can be used as examples, and some are retail/food. I absolutely, positively know this will not be the downfall of America. Absolutely. Companies will not fail, even mom and pops can find a way. We all may pay an increased cost, but the cost will be shared, and there are other sources of funding included in the AHCA. Of course, none of those a palatable to some. But, as an example, why is it that medical device manufacturers have been exempted from taxes on the products they make? If I make widgets, I pay taxes on the sales of those. Why do catheter makers not have to pay taxes. The savings from that exemption certainly don't trickle down to the "consumer", so it's not to keep the costs down.
December 6, 201213 yr This increase in cost that is to be shared is artificial pricing. Its not sound market prices. This creates problems in the market. It serves as an invisible tax and benefits no one.
December 7, 201213 yr You were expressing a desire for universal health coverage. That means you want me and everyone else to pay for all of our coverage. I don't want to do that. Therefore you are digging in my pocketbook when I did not consent. Me wanting universal healthcare doesn't mean anything you are insinuating. Seeing as how you know me and my desires oh sooooooo well. I want universal health care and I don't want anyone to pay for it. I want everyone who needs healthcare to able to get it and I don't want anyone to not get treatment when needed.

I hope that no one cuts back due to Obamacare, but I'm afraid that unless there are some changes made to it, it's inevitable...... Maybe they're struggling because suitable alternatives to both of these chains have emerged. I'm going to Carrabbas before Olive Garden and take away the cheddar biscuits and Red Lobster sucks.

That said I'm not sure how they are struggling, both are packed every time I go.
