December 7, 201213 yr Climate change? Yeah, no doubt, has happened since the earth was created. Accelerated? Who knows. Nothing but opinions with no hard evidence. As far as the op goes, I call horse hockey.
December 7, 201213 yr Author I guess it is a coincidence that every new year brings about the hottest ever recorded. No doubt the warming is speeding up. Global warming is real and that is one of the biggest problems I have with the Republican Party, their denial that it is true. Our planet is on a downward spiral.

Didn't Europe just have one of their closest winters ever.

December 7, 201213 yr Hottest in the U.S. World not far behind Is it not arrogant to think that because it's here it must go everywhere?

Global warming is real and that is one of the biggest problems I have with the Republican Party, their denial that it is true. Our planet is on a downward spiral. That's not true. A few years ago we had one of the worst winters we've ever had in my life time. Summer that year was about 2 weeks long.

December 7, 201213 yr Of course I am on the side that believes we have a problem and it is getting worse. I believe it is in large part due to increased carbon dioxide and methane while population continues to grow globally destroying vegetation that helps to purge the atmosphere of the carbon dioxide which otherwise has a relatively long shelf life. Globally steps need to be taken to stem the population growth and to reduce our carbon footprint. I am not one to usually espouse the vitures of the things the Europeans do right, but I spend a lot of time in Europe, and they are way ahead of us in this front. The biggest growing theat for carbon emissions is in China and India is not far behind as they continue to develop, wages get higher, and their counties fall in love with the automobile. The climate is cyclical, and I agree with that, but the cycle is on an upward trending (warmer) line, and the correlation is too strong to logic that the significant influence is anything other than man-made. I am just happy there is enough interest to have a dialogue. Edited December 7, 201213 yr by doomer

December 7, 201213 yr Cant we just make this huge tube or straw, and pump all the bad gases out into space? (Im half serious, half joking)
December 7, 201213 yr Cant we just make this huge tube or straw, and pump all the bad gases out into space? (Im half serious, half joking) It is not far-fetched, if properly emphasized, that technology can shift the trendline. That is consistent with the point earlier about people predicting doomsday, etc. which has never happened, and there haven't been global famines, etc. etc. However, what changed was technology and education....better crop yields, elimination of PCB's, clean up of groundwater, for example. If, to quote Dickens, "the current course of events remains unchanged", the planet will reach a capacity for humanity. It is only logical. Conclusion: Ignoring this, not an option, addressing it option 1.
December 7, 201213 yr I'm guessing Al Gore in the second picture... I thought it was Mountain ref on election day.
