"There are too many blowouts in the 1st round"

Featured Replies

That is what we heard on here the week leading up to the playoffs.

We heard how only 1 and 2 seeds should be in the playoffs and other seeds didn't deserve it.

Yet last night, in the state semi final games I counted 6 blow outs....in round 4, not round 1.

Not only that but a team that many said shouldn't be in the playoffs is now going to play for the state title in Bowling Green.

Where are all those people now who said that the playoffs should only have 1 and 2 seeds only?

I wish it was only 1 and 2 seeds. Maybe we'd be in bowling green. Ha. Congrats to Cooper. I'll be rooting for you fellers.

Adventures in missing the point. Too many classes. Too many teams making the playoffs. Too much awful football.

I love coach Borchers. Great guy and very happy for him, but Cooper is the beneficiary of the awful playoff structure that is KY high school football.

Either they should only take top 2 seeds or reduce number of classes and expand the districts.

Even after what Cooper has accomplished, posts like this simply make me scratch my head and wonder if people on here even have a clue.

You are right, Cooper shouldn't of been in the playoffs at all....genius

Hey let's not even have any playoffs and simply award the champions by picking names out of a hat like they apparently did for COY this year.

Just because you may not like football doesn't mean teams that earn it shouldn't get to play in the post season.

Ignorance is bliss apparentlyyou want only the top 2 seeds in the district, then explain to me how the team with the best record out of any other team in the district should not be in the playoffs. Maybe there are too many people like you that are afraid that a horrible team like Cooper will spoil your dreams. As I always believed, you can't be the best if you can't beat the best. Maybe that is your problem, you don't ever want to have to face the best so if you eliminate them from even being involved you may fair better.

So you think there should be 6 classes and everyone should make the playoffs?

No, I never said that. Also so you know everyone doesn't make the playoffs.

If everyone made the playoffs then this wouldn't of been just Coopers second year in the playoffs.

What I have said forever and a day is, if you want to eliminate more teams then make it so if you have no district wins you are out or even if you have a losing record in district then eliminate them if you want. If ther is an uneven amount of teams for a district then you give the 1 seed a bye the first week. You don't eliminate great teams just because you think too many are in. That is stupid.

What this thread proves is that everyone who said only the 1 and 2 seeds should make the playoffs were wrong.

I totally believe Cooper should of made the playoffs. I believe there needs to be some type of a point system that determines your seed and if you make the playoffs. I think Ohio's is too stringent but something similar seems fair to me. What is in place now is a joke...JMO

I agree. Like I said, there should be some other way other than the current way to determine tie breakers, the current system is a joke.

My suggestion would to have the first 2 weeks of the playoffs determine district champions, then move on to regional play etc.

That way only the district champion from each district advances.

Simply put, top 4 teams in each district play in a 2 game playoff, the winner goes and plays regional championship and then semi and final

Or if that is too many teams then say only those teams with a winning district record plays.

You are always going to have blowouts in early playoff rounds no matter what you do. Every state has them. Heck, HHS just put up 61 in a state semi-final game and may do the same thing next week in the state finals. I don't have a problem with 5 playoff rounds. I DO have a problem with six divisions in a state with only about 200 schools playing football. There should be no more than 4 tops - 3 would probably be better. With four divisions and the top 32 making the playoffs, that means 128 make the playoffs. At least the worst 65-70 or so would be out of the playoffs - so you at least have to accomplish a little to get in the playoffs. It will never happen though - the KHSAA will never go for it. They would rather have 8 divisions (God forbid) than 4.

HB: I get that this is an emotional issue for you.

You want me to explain how the team with the best record in the district wouldnt make the playoffs if only the top 2 teams make it? It is quite simple - some games matter more than others. Under an only 2 teams advance scenario the Conner game would have been the equivalent of a playoff game. You better win that one. :D. After all you can't be the best....

Cooper qualified for the playoffs under the current system and they deserve to be competing for a state championship. I have no issues with that. But Cooper being the beneficiary of an awful system somehow justifying the merits of the same awful system is really flawed logic.

I just don't like the system the way it is. Too much bad football. There are other systems that could make it better. Some might have allowed Cooper in this year some may have not. Coopers plight doesn't matter and not what I am arguing (actually it is mostly what you argue). What does matter is the current system is bad....really really bad.

The system has some faults, yes. But it isn't totally bad. So now you say they shouldn't be in because they lost to Conner. Then I guess Conner shouldn't be in because they lost to S Oldham, and wait, S Oldham shouldn't be in because they lost to Cooper.

So then any team that doesn't go undefeated doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs....gotcha.

Just let me remind you that the undeserving Cooper Jaguars beat every 1 and 2 seed over the last 4 weeks, yes those 1 and 2 seeds who are supposed to be better than Cooper.

I will agree to disagree. Who really cares how many teams are in the playoffs? Does it really burden your life that much? It's a game, let the boys play.

The best way to determine who the best are is to let them play the game period. Right now Cooper is the 2 nd best team in class 5A with a chance of being #1 and that is driving some people nuts lol.

As I said earlier, this thread proves you and others that only the top 2 seeds deserve to be in the playoffs wrong period.

As I said in the first post, many said because of the blowouts in round 1 is why only top 2 should make it, but those same people ignore the fact there were 6 blowouts in the semis last night. Even more proof they are clueless.

I have no problem with only 4 classes. That isn't what I am talking about, I am talking about the people who claim with the current 6 class status that only 2 teams from every district should get in and no one else. Under the current tie breaker rules it does not determine who the true top 2 teams are in a tie. Proof this year Cooper was always the best team in the district all season yet because of a stupid tie breaker rule gave them a 3 seed which many on here say they didn't deserve to be in the playoffs from the start.

Cooper was the best team in the district, I even bit my tongue as some Conner fans said otherwise yet those same fans are deathly silent the last two weeks and hiding as Cooper has done what they said they couldn't do.

4 classes, I can live with that. But under the current structure no one with half a brain can claim Cooper didn't deserve to play this post season.
