November 14, 201213 yr Royce White goes off on Rockets for not helping with anxiety disorder But he was absent Monday for a home game against the Miami Heat and Tuesday for a practice. White released a statement Tuesday night: "In hindsight, perhaps it was not a good idea to be open and honest about my anxiety disorder — due to the current situations at hand that involve the nature of actions from the Houston Rockets. As a rookie, I want to settle into a team and make progress; but since preseason, the Rockets have been inconsistent with their agreement to proactively create a healthy and successful relationship." His twitter feed... I'm most defiantly not AWOL... There are many things here ppl don't know, #Honesty is what I'm sticking with. @HoustonRockets "Luke 12:3" Problem goes back WAY before D-League assignment. This about #Consideration and #Health it isn't about Rebounds & Money. My "anxiety" hasn't caused inconsistency in my participation with the team from training camp until 72hrs ago, (flying) to DET, (flying) Isn't the issue. I'd waste my "Talent", to stand up for myself and what's right, regarding my health 10x's out 10. #Logical Player "Commodity" league. "your a COMMODITY" and "we'll support your health needs even if its inconvenient..." just don't go. My health can't afford such an ideal. While #anxiety is the issue, the main piece of that isn't AIRPLANES, it's asking for support 4 my disorder thats consistent and fair. Again My "Anxiety" is not well but not BAD, my main WORRY is being treated as a digit instead of a HUMAN, in the case of my health.
November 14, 201213 yr Anxiety is weird & thankfully something I don't understand. Unfortunately, it can be very debilitating. I don't know how a professional athlete can refuse to fly, though.
November 14, 201213 yr Just a sad situation all around. I really don't know what else to say without being insensitive to anxiety disorders. I can't feel his angst.

November 14, 201213 yr Anxiety runs in my family so I see it firsthand. It is one of the worst feelings you will ever experience. I really feel for this guy, his disorder definitely is hurting his ability to have an NBA career.

November 14, 201213 yr What is the best way for the Rockets to handle this? Cut him. They were stupid for drafting a guy that won't fly and feels he should receive special treatment.
November 14, 201213 yr Tought to make any comments about Royce White without being insensitive, but his anxiety isn't worth the trouble. Shame.
November 14, 201213 yr Cut him. They were stupid for drafting a guy that won't fly and feels he should receive special treatment. Yeah but it's a huge PR nightmare if they cut him loose like that. It's obvious he has some serious issues going on. An employer can't just fire someone who has documented mental issues without reason. I'd imagine the NBA Player's Association would be able to successfully defend him.
November 14, 201213 yr Cut him. They were stupid for drafting a guy that won't fly and feels he should receive special treatment. I do think they were stupid for drafting him. I do agree there. He's not that good to overlook a glaring issue that was bound to pop up. Issue #1 before Thanksgiving? That's a huge problem for a first round draft pick.
November 14, 201213 yr I don't feel bad for him at all. There are sacrifices you have to make to make a living. No one's job is absolutely perfect. Everyone does things they don't want to do. I understand the anxiety and the panic attacks, whatever. Get it figured out, get on a plane and stop crying. When I'm working in the hospital and I have to clean out someone's open wound that has their spine poking out at you, or if I have to wipe someone's butt out, I don't want to do it. But I certainly don't complain to the hospital about it and claim it's not fair because I just don't like to do it.
