nkypete, I agree 100% with this assessment. The opening series with Gabbard under center and 5 wideouts had the Breds "flustered" to say the least, as the Indians were moving the ball quite well. Could you please post the HC offensive yardage minus the opening drive and the 4th quarter, Thanks.

 

HC got 56 yards on the opening drive (32 rushing and 24 passing). They got 59 yards rushing in the 4th quarter with the running clock (27 on the last play of the game). Is that what you wanted?

Except for a couple plays, I would call it "civil". I like what NCC has the PA announcer do prior to the game by having the prayer and reciting expected behavior.

I believe the "Expected Behavior" is supposed to be read at all KHSAA games. I know I hear it at all Beechwood Home Games.

Pete, what's the outlook for next years HC squad? IMO it looks like they had some young talent but the athletes looked on the small side. Just my take from outside the program.

HC did have a fairly young team I feel that the defense should actually improve a great deal they have a lot of younger players who should have gotten more playing time along the front 7 than they did this year. Mike groeschen and David lampke will be 2 very good linebackers as juniors next year. Groeschen probably would have started this year but got hurt before the season started and had to miss this year. As for the offense qb is up in the air with Matt stecht(will be a senior) I and Hamilton Scott (will be a soph). Matt is probably a better passer at this point but Scott is more of an athlete. I see the Indians using a short passing game and pounding it with beal next year, their line will be a bit smaller, but with good technique and running a spread offense that is more zone blocking I don't see this being a huge issue

Correct. And I believe the prayer is requisite of all Catholic schools in the Diocese of Covington - I know New Cath and Cov Cath do it consistently, and although I don't frequently go to sporting events at Notre Dame, I have heard it done there as well.

The difference with NCC and Holy Cross is that they play at Public Stadiums. I remember hearing grumblings about the Public prayer at these venues.

 

Anyways, I like and support it all . I also agree that the expected behavior thing does not seem to be repeated everywhere.

I trust Shrek's assessment because I have not had much of a chance to watch HC's younger players. Your observation is also probably right on. Hopefully they have a growth spurt between now and next year and hit the weight room with regularity. Injuries, size and lack of depth (especially on defense) contributed a lot to HC's inability to stop the run. I have concern about depth for next year due to the lack of a freshman team. I think a lot of young men are being encouraged to stay away from football due to the concussion issue. HC does not have attendance issues (they are full). I hope more players continue to the progression from the 7-8 grade team to freshman to JV to varsity. Koz is working real hard to keep the youth program going. I fully expect somebody like Lawnboy13 to come back with one of his "gassing up the bus" comments!
