How many onside kicks by Cooper? Were they kicking it deep or pooching? Curious.

I posted in the cooper thread what they did, but I'll tell it in here also.

They mainly kicked high short kicks.

1st kick they kicked high short kick that went out of bounds.

2nd kick they kicked deep right to Timmons, Cooper's special teams smothered him on the kick return and I think he only returned it for 4 yards.

next kick high and short, around the 35 or so.

they actually tried 1 true onside kick to open the 2nd half which failed.

next couple were short kicks that were kicked high as most were and FC fair caught 2 of them.

 

The last kick was a perfect short high kick that Cooper actually ran under it and caught in the air but a FC player stripped it from his hand and they got the ball.

 

So in summary, only 1 true onside kick, 1 kicked deep right to Timmons but he was tackled after only a 4 yard gain or so. The rest were short igh kicks (30 yards or so) and 2 of the kicks went out of bounds.

 

If you remember the Cooper Conner game, the kicks were similar to that game where both teams kicked short high kicks to the 2nd line of the receiving team. Was what I was hoping Conner would do last week instead of all the onside kicks. It gives the kicking team time to get down field and cover the kicks and yet doesn't give the other team the ball on the 50 or closer everytime.

The big difference is that Cooper's defense could slow down FC where Conner's defense could not so IMO Conner had to try the onside kicks to try and get the ball as FC was scoring on them with ease. The extra 20 yards or so kicking to the 2nd line was all that Cooper needed on defense.

I wwonder if Conner did what they did in their game against FC because they don't trusst their coverage team because I don't think I remember them kicking deep against us either. Just curious.

Bottom line answer is NO! I'm sure the Conner coaching staff had a game plan and followed it. Basically it was a shoot-out and whoever had the ball last was going to win the game...period. Conner coaches should be commended for their dedication and the progress made with the program over the past 6 seasons. I would argue that the reason for the on-side kicks was due to their defense. The games that I have watched, Conner has always on-side or pouched kicked no matter who their opponent may be.

IMO...The staff at Conner is one of the finest staffs assembled throughout the entire state. You would be hard pressed to find a harder working staff that cares about their players like Coach Trosper. Next season I'm sure they will be just as competitive if not more so as this season.

That is true and why I asked the question I asked because I remember the Cooper game with Conner they did the same thing so was wondering if that is what they did all year when faced with a good kick returner.

 

As far as the coaching staff, Conner has a very good staff, but I will take Cooper's staff. What they've done in such a short time is incredible imo.

 

I just wish Conner played Harlan Co. and Bowling Green this year. I'm a bit superstitious but every team that has beaten Conner this year Cooper has beaten. 3 teams Conner lost to Cooper ended up beating 4 times (So. Oldham twice). I need all the good vibes I can get lol.

Nothing is wrong with me. It is just your usual comments, why do you even care if anyone is replying to this thread in the first place? I know why, it's because your true jealousy and hatred for Cooper period. You have been down on Cooper all year and just because once again they have shown what a good team they are it kills you. Every win they have a little bit of you dies inside.

 

You were pretty quiet after Friday nights games on here and I know exactly why. So what do you do? You come into a thread where RE asked a good question and because Cooper was succesful over FC you get all upset. I love it lol. You don't think I'd tell you not to get your panties in a wad in person? You don't know me very well lol.

I answered why this thread was active. I guess it wasn't good enough for you. so to save you grief, maybe you should ignore this thread. Again, it was answering RomanEmpire who asked how Cooper handled their kickoffs against FC.

Just to settle any dust between the two teams, as an FC fan we think Cooper is the better TEAM. They are better on special teams, and especially defense. We thought we could score more but it did not work out that way in the end. Conner had two Studs that were better athletes than anyone on the Cooper team, but 11 on 11 we felt Cooper was better.

FC has an awesome program. What a great team. Their offense is so evenly balanced that it is so hard to plan against. That is what impressed me most was their offensive balance. FC could pick their poison at any time in the game. They can run you to death or they can throw on you all night. I'd love to have that offense for just 1 year. Good luck to FC next year and to all the seniors this year, they should be proud.
