Which regions are expected to be the best in the Commonwealth? 6th, 7th, 11th....?

"best" as in individual talent and teams... the 3 you listed are far above everyone else.

I'd take the 12th against at least half of the regions. The 12th has been consistently advancing to at least the 2nd round of the Sweet 16 for the last several years.

I wanted to put the 10th...but felt like a homer doing it. As it stands, Montgomery is a few steps ahead of everybody else, but when March rolls around, who knows.

 

I see a group of say 6 teams that are interchangeable behind the Indians. May not be the "best" region, but will be competitive.

Top to bottom the 10th is down. Historically, they are waaaaaay better than they will be this year. Clark Co, Mason, not nearly close to where they typically are. So, to put them in the same conversation with the top 3 this season isn't reality. Usually, the 10th has 2 or more teams that are ranked in the top 10/20. Not this season. And no disrespect to the 10th meant at all. Just that this year, IMO, they aren't at their usual strength.

 

With that said, I think in the next 2 years, Mason will be back to Mason of old.

I think you're right about the 10 region. I do think the 16th and 15th are weaker. Don't know that much about the other regions. I do think the 6, 7th and the 11th are by far the strongest regions in the state, year after year.

The 12th Region should start the season with 2 teams ranked in the top 25. Could have 3 by the end of the season.

14th will have one or two as well, IMO.

The 11th Region must be considered the best because of the depth of the teams in that region. Madison Central, Henry Clay, Lexington Catholic, Scott County, Dunbar, and Lafayette will easily be in the preseason top 25, and Bryan Station may join them. The others (namely Tates Creek, Franklin County, Woodford County, Lexington Christian) aren't bad either.

 

The 6th and 7th Regions are next with two extremely high level teams in both regions (Bullitt East and PRP in the 6th and Trinity and Ballard in the 7th), but am not sure how many other teams in the 6th and 7th will make the preseason top 25. Perhaps Fairdale, Jeffersontown and Butler in the 6th will be in the top 25, but not all three. Perhaps St. Xavier and Eastern in the 7th, but Eastern has a new coach and several new players that will take a few weeks to build. Male is still rebuilding.

 

One could make the case that the 9th Region has better depth than the 6th or 7th, with Dixie Heights, Holy Cross, Newport Catholic, Covington Catholic, Holmes and Boone County being quality teams.

While I agree on the lack of depth in the 6th and 7th, the top of each region is ridiculous. Trinity, Ballard, St. Xavier, PRP and Bullitt East all have top 10 talent. Butler and Fairdale are both legitimate top 25 teams.

 

Then you have a handful of teams that could break out late in the year such as Central, Eastern (will depend on Brangers eligibility, currently he is ineligible), Jeffersontown, etc.

Don't count out Central in the 7th region. They have practically everyone back from last season. Stuart Jackson, Dominique Chandler, and Jamie Johnson are all top quality players and they have several other very good role players. Coach Bibby does an outstanding job with his team. They play extremely hard and pressure you for 32 minutes. They are capable of beating anyone in the state on any given night.
