November 4, 201213 yr GREAT JOB CLYDE!!! My Sunday School Teacher is a WWII vet, he crawled across France and Germany on his belly. I have never spent a wasted moment with him, he is like the proverbial onion...every time I think I know him a new layer is revealed...these guys are special!
November 4, 201213 yr Even though Dad is gone, I am staying active in his KWVA chapter. All of these guys are diamonds in the rough. At the monthly meetings, there is a segment where each month one member tells of his experiences. They have to write it out and I make sure I get a copy of each. I want them for my grandchildren, and their grandchildren. I also have more than 11 hours of my father's stories recorded and stored on my computer. The sagas range from growing up dirt poor in the southeastern Kentucky hills to his involvement in 3 wars, especially the Korean war. I just can't listen to any of them, yet.
November 4, 201213 yr Let me reiterate. It's not like I spent a lot of money buying the guy drinks (although I would have). My point is that these guys not only deserve our respect they deserve our time and attention. I got it. My point is most of us are too busy to notice the opportunities to do the same and they slip away one by one

That is so cool that you continue to stay active in the KWVA. I bet you have some great stories on tape from your dad. Good idea! But I can imagine that it's too painful right now to listen.

Didn't think twice about it and didn't tell anyone until my brother got his shirt in the mail. He's a wounded warrior and I love him.
