They wasted one year of Patrick Towle's eligibility. I can name 10 things off the top of my head that are simply dumbfounding from this coaching staff. It's a comedy of errors really.

Again, that's my issue with this decision. You either live with the interrupted flow or you redshirt him. Don't give him 6 practices and then put him on the sideline after a few series and THEN say after the game that you wish you hadn't put him in.

UK announcer (listened to beginning of game on radio) said it was scripted that PT would come in the 3rd series. I've never bought into the script theory of coaching; certainly not when you are UK this season desperately needing a win, on the road, against an SEC team, and with a defense that has been rather porous all season. You know you are going to need to score lots of pointsto win, so stick with the QB that was moving the ball. Bad move by UK coaches. Actually another in what seems to be a reoccuring theme of bad coaching decisions.

 

If I understood the UK announcers correctly, PT didn't practice at all with UK's 1s in practice; all with the 2s. If accurate, can one expect timing and execution to be at the needed level when he goes with the 1s? If you are not going to practice him with the 1s, you shouldn't play him with the 1s unless you have to or the game is out of reach either way. Dooming him and the team to fail.

 

If I'm wrong about him not practicing with the 1s, I retract the criticism in the prior paragraph, but I'm pretty sure that is what the UK announcer said.

 

UK could have, maybe should have, won that game; and that is taking into consideration all the youth UK put onto the field. Playing all the frosh and sophomores may be a legit reason to lose games to Fla, Georgia, SC, etc. The team UK put on the field Saturday was more talented and better than Missiouri.

More talented and better???? Not by any stretch of imagination....33-10 was the final score...Ky. hasn't had more talent on the field than any team they have played this year...they may be more talented than Samford, and that might be stretching it....top 3 worst teams in the nation!!!

No disrespect taken. From what I observed from the part I saw on TV, I felt that UK was more talented than Missiouri. Not saying such was the case against Florida and the other teams we've played, with the exception of Kent State and possibly WKU. I didn't see those games so I have no opinion as to how our talent level matched up against those two teams. I truly feel UK should have beaten Missiouri.

 

If Jeff Pic knows what he's talking about (and I think he does), he is saying that we have to be able to throw the ball down field because defenses are packing the box and the safeties are within 7 or 8 yds of the line of scrimmage. That makes it very tough to run the ball and evidently Missiouri made that adjustment after our first two drives. It also makes it very tough to complete short passes when the safeties are playing that close. None of which is rocket science or should be a surprise to UK's coaches. Heck, high school coaches have that figured out. Some criticize Highlands coach for winging the ball deep so often. Here's how he looks at it: if it's complete, fantastic. If it's incomplete, it will make the corners and safeties be concerned about the deep ball, making it easier to complete the short to middle pass. Both are good things that either pay dividends on that play or a following play.

 

If and I repeat if, Whitlow can't throw the ball deep, he should be moved to another position now. No reason for him to get any more snaps if he doesn't have the arm to throw the ball deep. UK simply cannot just line up and overpower any team, and I mean any team, on its schedule. So you have to spread them out and back up there safeties. Mumme figured that out years ago when he decided to start Lorenzen over Bonner, whom had started the prior year. Not a Mumme fan but he was a good offensive coach.

 

If Whitlow has the arm to throw it deep, then throw the ball deep even if it ends up incomplete, as it forces the defense to honor the deep ball and backs up the safeties. If the safeties play deeper, it makes it easier to run the short passing game. If you can complete some short passes, the Lbers can't play down hill at the snap of the ball due to concerns about getting back in their drop zones. That helps the running game. But it all starts with backing up the safeties.

 

It's Football 101 that if you are one dimensional on O, a team less talented than you, can beat you. If you are one dimensional on O, you have almost zero chance of beating a team more talented than you and not much of a chance to beat a team as talented as you. Our O fizzled after the second drive because Missiouri adjusted and packed the box and moved the safeties up. Our running game died as did our short passing game. And if we are one dimensional because we can't or won't throw the ball deep, we'll struggle to move the ball the next three games too.

 

This is directed to anyone: was I correct in thinking that I heard the UK radio announcers say that Towles took no snaps with the first O last week?

What I find interesting is look at what Kent State has done since we played them. 7-1 record. How did we win that game?

I see no benefit in releasing Joker, now. No school is going to allow Mitch to contact any of their coaches during the season. Season tickets don't go on sale until late January or February and until a new coach is named, I don't see any gain or preventative loss being effected by cutting bait right at this moment.

 

There are only 3 games left. Let him run out the string with his seniors, then kindly show him the door.

I am in St Louis and was listening to local sports talk. Mizzou fans may want their head coach gone more than UK fans do.
