Mayfield's Historic War Memorial Stadium Damaged by Storm This Morning

Featured Replies

Stadium itself only recieved minor damages it appears but fencing, visitor metal stands and fencing are damaged as well as surrounding buildings. Community recreation center (a metal sided stell frame structure) has hole in side and roof damage. Several nearby homes also have varying degrees of damage. Scoreboard is likely a total loss as is some of the stadium fencingIMG_0971[1].jpg

Sorry to hear this. The absolute main thing was no loss of life.

PTL no one was even injured... concerning the scoreboard, are we going to try to get that repaired before the game against Caldwell Co. in 2 wks ?

I sure hate to see this. Things can be replaced.

Sorry to hear this, I'm sure it will be fixed. I'm glad as well that no one was hurt.

Hey, this is the first time in several years that War Memorial has seen damage from a "Tornado". :sssh:

Just a little fun at the expense of the Big Blue....still have great respect for you.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that the storm that damaged the stadium was a tornado

Toothpick and the whole Mayfield family, I am sorry this happened however we are all happy no one got hurt. Fence's and scoreboards can be replaced not people. I saw this on our news on Sunday morning. My prayer's go out to the Mayfield family. JD

I agree with JD, it is great news no one was hurt. It sounds like the damage to the stadium was minimal, which doesn't surprise me. If those stands ever get knocked down then that is a disaster no one ever wants to see. Thoughts and prayers to all in the Mayfield community impacted by this storm.

There was one injury. A man was hit by flying debris. He was knocked unconscious and had broken ribs. Flown to Vanderbilt with non life threatening injuries.

At the stadium?

Was the block wall built around the scoreboard? Is the scoreboard still on metal posts?

Looks like that white roof was torn away. Wasn't there a sign with all the accomplishments on the front side of the scoreboard?

Here is a better look at how the scoreboard was built. The sign on front is removable. We couldn’t put a permanent sign up because we shared a stadium with Graves County. I guess we need to raise the money to make it permanent.

Update, Mayfield will be using a portable scoreboard to finish out the year and then get the one they want in the off season. Coach Morris should select someone to do it old style with the scoreboard being by hand.

The visitors bleachers have been condemned.
