October 12, 201214 yr The figure I heard thrown around a year or so ago was 9 million but I have no idea if that is accurate. I'm almost positive it was in the Millions.
October 12, 201214 yr One was a supervisor not a manager. The millions you guys are talking about is way over exaggerated. Funny how the guy who owned the storage barn isnt even brought up in the indictments and his 2 nephews are. Bad situation for everyone involved. I really feel for their families. Sounds like they will all do some time but I'm hearing 3 years max. The ones that actually stole the material should go down hard. I didnt see anything mentioned for tax evasion, I really thought that would be part of this case.

Will they be charged in Ohio in Ky? Our company just had a judge in Cincinnati sentence a man for stealing copper from one of our buildings in Camp Washington to 39 months in prison. And he didn't take near the copper that these guys took. I'm thinking jail time will be longer to set an example...

Our company will cash in 50,000 lbs of copper every couple of months that is stripped from a closing factory that is part of our Job scope of work. That's how we get paid for the project!!!! These guys worked for Duke....I can't imagine the access to copper they must of had. Sort of like a Copper mine.....Who knows how much if it was happening for multiple years.

Funny how some of the guys' wives aren't mentioned either even though the feds have them on video cashing checks. Maybe they struck a deal also to testify against their husbands. I thought tax evasion would be part of it too. I'm with you though - there is one mastermind who should get WAY more time than the others, imo.
October 12, 201214 yr A pound of high grade copper normally goes for around $3.50 lb. The wire that we're talking about is not just any wire. There is spaghetti wire and then there is bare bright "High Grade". Something tells me that there wasn't meatballs involved.
October 12, 201214 yr After reading the article, now I know why no one on here mentioned any names. Those are some very well known and big names out there in the County. Hey tbirds, is that the same fella that accidently shot that electrician with a nail gun.
October 12, 201214 yr Unfortunately I know at least 4 of these guys through playing softball together on the same team from back in the day. I am praying for them and their families......Great guys but I guess greed got the best of them. I have also heard for a long time that this was going to go down. Surprised one of them hasn't tried to take the cowardly way out thus far. Sad situation!

This is the high grade wire that is on those huge wooden spools that you'd need a piece of equipment to move. From what I have heard, whole spools were taken, not just scraps left over from jobs.
October 12, 201214 yr This is the high grade wire that is on those huge wooden spools that you'd need a piece of equipment to move. From what I have heard, whole spools were taken, not just scraps left over from jobs. Purchased new, copper primary cable runs anywhere from $8-18 a foot. For a whole spool of that stuff to go missing and not be noticed (even with a supervisor or manager looking the other way) is ludicrous.
