My kids have been in both the BCPWFL and the Middle School League in Kenton County. Knowing first hand the level of training that the school district coaches have and that athletic trainers are often available and that medical screening is required I would recommend the middle school league at 6th grade. The boys stay together longer and there is less Daddy Ball in KC.

 

I have also noticed that many kids who start at early ages burn out and walk away from football in High School.

Beings part of the topic here is playing time, and only 30 players out of 100 get any reps in varsity games, why are those other 70 players there?? Is that something they learned in the FTJFL??

Are you sure about that only 3 players that played in NKYFL get any reps., and are you implying that ALL the rest played 7th &8th FTJFL??

 

First, glad you retracted the comment about what they learn in FTJFL - that was going to draw the ire of a lot of posters.

 

To the bolded part - roster contains 91 boys not 100.

 

I didn't say "any" reps - every player gets reps at HHS - the last two games were 70 point blow outs. The other 61 boys are there as JV players, varsity back ups, and good teammates.

 

I went through the entire roster and I am comfortable with 3 being the number of NKYFL players in the varsity rotation. There are about 4 or 5 others that are sophomores that will be a big part of the program in the next two years.

 

The would put the number of FTJFL players on the HHS roster over 80 boys.

Every league is only as good as your expectations. It all depends on what you think is in the best interest of your kids.

One of the most surprising comments I have read on this board. Wow that experience with the older son most really stick in your crawl.

 

 

If the success of the Highlands program and the number of players in the program doesn't convince you which league gets in right - then good luck with the move.

 

 

Before anyone comes up with how many kids at HHS played NKYFL Sr Division let me give you the correct numbers. (current varsity members getting reps =2 or 3 out of 30)

 

And where does the population of 30 come from? I can think of the following off the top of my head that played in the NKYFL: Tyler Schweitzer, Zack Harris, Thomas Wrobleski, Jaylen Hayes, Brandon Hergott, Donovan McCoy and Nick True. All of these guys see extensive minutes at the varsity level and to be honest are some of the better players on the team.

 

Agree with what was said somewhere in this thread that each family needs to decide what is best for their son and give it a whirl. If things do not work out, there are always other options.

Senior division of the NKYFL is really watered down and there is zero chance that Highlands will be creating a middle school team or teams to play in the middle school league. Dale is all about keeping kids involved in football as evidenced by the size of the roster that keeps growing every year.

As far as FTJRFL I love the concept for keeping kids interested in football, I really do. However, the splitting of time and giving the better players only 2.5 qtrs is primarily the reason. Just looking at options to get some boys more reps as well as the ability to beat on other kids not just tgeir friends. Not a done deal by any means. In fact next season if the current Red Team coaches stay that May be the deciding reason to stay in the league. I think they do a fantastic job at the 7/8 grade level. The more i am hearing about the watered down SR league it more than likely will end up with him staying.

 

@ Stinky - nothing in My Krall as My older son really wasnt cut out for football. The kid has to want to play the game, not just the Daddy. I wouldnt be volunteering with the league now if that was the case.

That's great to hear!! In fact I might be able to give you a heads up that the current 7/8 Red coaching staff will be together at that level for a pretty long time. Hopes this helps the decision to stay aboard......:thumb: #SCIT
