Am I correct in that Highlands played 10 Srs in this game? I am assuming these are kids who do not see the Varsity field and also assuming this is somethIng agreed upon by the opposing coaches.

 

Is that something new? I don't recall their ever playing JV before.

#44 R. Donovman was a senior and he scored two TD's and except for Watson and Telke the rest who scored TD's for HHS were Juniors, I believe.

 

CovCath only had sophomores score and to my knowledge, no seniors played! Does it bother me? Not at all but it does show how badly HHS wanted to win a JV game over CovCath!

There is for the majority of HS students, a huge difference in size, maturity and experience between a HS senior and a HS sophomore whether that senior plays varsity football or not!

 

Not necessarily, very often the underclassmen are more talented than the seniors that might end up playiing JV. It could be so that those boys who have given 4 years of their life get some game action they would not normally see.

If not I'm not sure why you would throw out numbers like that without knowing facts. With that said, if I'm wrong and 10 seniors did in fact dress and play significant minutes I would have a problem with that.

Ol' papa never did take much stock in JV results. Frosh and varsity, yes. JV - not so much.

We can agree to disagree on this issue. I would rather do as Cov Cath does and play and develop my sophomores and a few juniors who don't see varsity minutes. If you're a senior at this point in your career do you really want to play JV just to get "action" especially if people don't put much stock in the game like 'mcpapa' is saying.

Whatever HHS is doing, it's successful so I say stay with it.

Donovan (#44) only played JV as he was coming back from an injury and needed to get in some reps to get back into Varsity condition. It was not a question of playing seniors on JV to get a win.

Just so the facts are part of the discussion - HHS dressed 2 seniors but only 1 played in the game. The other senior was there to punt. He did get some action in the varsity game Friday night but I'm sure he will not be needed the next 3 weeks.

Then if it doesn't bother you, why bring it up in the first place? If they had wanted a win so bad, the JV team could've been stocked with a bunch of the sophs that recently got moved up to varsity and didn't see a whole lot of playing time Friday night. But were they there? NO.

 

Personally, I seriously doubt it had much, if anything, to do with another win over CCH. If Coach Wirth doesn't choose to use a player (senior) returning from an injury to gradually get him back up to speed, then that's HIS decision. All coaches want to have as many of their players as possible ready each week, no matter whom they are going up against. You always respect and never underestimate any team, and I'm sure Harrison County wouldn't appreciate the slam they just received.

It's just Dale being Dale more than likely. I have always believed JV was for Sophs and a few JRs. Hard to get everyone playing time when you have 95 kids on the roster. Just because I think its ok for the Birds to do this sparingly doesn't mean I think its good overall.
