Congrats to Rob Coffey - Highlands New Coach

Agreed!

Football generates the most revenue, but we all know that the booster groups and the parents float most of the sports at HHS - but that's a whole other discussion.

If death valley field was the decision and is the answer going forward - the time is now to start the work. Soccer field completed, plenty of room for frosh and football sleds in unused portion of the valley. Those obstacles are now behind you. Caution tape off the infield and outfield areas - plant some seed and get it going. Plenty of things can get accomplished this fall to make the field better for the spring.

I totally agree. Having been a part of HHS Boosters a few years ago, I can tell you they do a phenomenal job of raising funds and are very equitable in spending it on what is needed in all sports. Rob should definitely talk to them if he's interested. I grew up watching softball games and running around in Tower Park so I would love to see the girls play there! Either way, I hope the girls get what they need to be successful and everyone gives them and Rob all their support. Go Birds!

So to set the reord straight before leaving this thread. I have wished Rob the best of luck on here and in person.

That's great to hear ABC....Now that Rob has finally put a face to the villian:lol:, he can now concentrate on High School Girls Softball....:thumb:

The softball team often practices on the turf.

I am surprised the softball team doesn't use the football field as there home field.

Why? They already have what could be a nice field and I am sure that would not sit too well with the football team. It is definitely nice to have it for practice when needed but not for all their home games IMO. No one else in NKY plays on turf for softball except Beechwood.

Congrats on the head coach job Rob. You have a bunch of young talent out there, I'm sure it will be an exciting year also. I heard that there was a rumor of Camel Bump transferring and sending her kid to Highlands. Any truth to that?

Sorry no more tuition students CC is stuck with her.

She could always move to Ft. Thomas. (Where is my praying hands icon?)

Congrats Rob you come along way from being the bully of the Woodfill playground. I think he will do a good job moving forward. Start young teach the fundamentals and build skill sets. This program had some serious players back in the 80's when coach had the group of girls. The game has changed but I hope you can bring the program to the level it once was. I know a few believe they are the voice of the program. This family's mindset is find a home and work hard. JB has put a lot of love, sweat and tears in his program. The title 9 crap is for the birds (that is a play on words). First start with putting a solid product on the field. What the wife and I saw was very disappointing. Yes ABC I have been around it a bunch and the MRS played at a high level so I think I know a little about the sport. Of course it was in the slow ball era.

It happened at Notre Dame. Why can't it happen at Highlands. 2 years ago ND was in worse shape than Highlands.

Notre Dame's AD was not the football coach. We started with a donation from a parent to put up a home run fence. Before we were done another donation came in to replace more old fence. Next we had a large concrete company donate a rather large amount or concrete and we were building dugouts and bull pens. None of this could have happened without the sweat equity of many parents and players or the support of the administration. Our past president saw a value in the community donating their time and money and was very supportive. Without that support we could not have done anything despite all the donations and free labor.

I see a lot of potential for what you all call Death Valley and wish you all the best of luck. You have to start somewhere....come up with a plan and present it to the higher ups. You have to find a way to grow grass in September which is impossible if you are using it for football.

LJM4th is right. It starts with a plan and it takes a village...the administration, coaches, parents and players all have to be on the same page to make it happen. It is possible but the parents have to do the most of the work.

I'm sure you know "a little bit" about slow pitch as you say, but there is a big difference between slow pitch and fast pitch. HUGE, not even close to the same game IMO. As for title 9, it is very important and should be taken seriously. The better the facilities the better the chance of more girls being attracted to playing. The girls should have just as nice of facilities and the same opportunities as the boys.

The ND parents have done a great job with building the softball field. They are great with tools like the shovel and hammer - just watch out for the knife.
