Happens all the time along with the Baseball team. They both have equal time on the turf during their respectful seasons when they need it. It is never a problem!!! Did Alphabet Soup neglect to tell you guys that?.... Lol!!!

Exactly my thoughts. It's not like they can really hurt it, it is turf. Thanks for clearing that up and yes Mr. Alphabet failed to mention that. It is nice to have that luxury to practice on a turf field when the softball/baseball field is too wet. Creates a nice advantage for the teams to practice outside on a field rather than in a gym. Again good luck to Coach Coffey.

Can any of the Highlands football contingent give us a reason why the football team needs to practice on the softball field? :idunno:

I was under the impression they only use Death Valley when using tackling sleds so they don't tear up the turf. I am in no way close to the program though; I'm just guessing.

Ok I was going to stay out of this one but since you called me out I will answer the question for you. The softball and baseball teams are permited to use the football field during the off season and regular season AFTER all the other teams who the school rents the field to are done with it. They can also use the small gym for hitting and pitching after the dance team and cheerleaders are done with it.

There was suppose to be a permite fence put up as was talked about but like someone else said it doesnt help wen the AD is the football coach.

The old coaching staff and parents at a board meeting was told that the valley was softball only then they had 62 freshman play football plus the soccer field wasn't done in time so some had to shared.

SO AD told parent they could find somewhere to practice fr now if they wanted to practice. But they couldn't play games elsewhere.

As I told Rob the other day i wish him the best of luck.

I bet the baseball team doesn't have to find somewhere to practice.

They were suppose to use it only for softball and the sled and freshman team out side of fence but as with everything else lip service.

150 plus kids and no room plus it's a football that is used for softball 3 months a year.

Not calling you out at all. Just wish you would air your own dirty laundry out yourself besides going through other BGP members to try to stir the pot. I'm sure the AD is well aware of what could possibly happen down the Low road. This thread is supposed to be about Rob Coffey taking the HHS program and moving forward not sideways, but apparently that is not the case. That's too bad isn't it? I will leave it at that. Again, congrats to Rob Coffey

Would like to see Rob move this program forward like Jeremy has with baseball. The school initiated talks with the city years ago and now Highland Park is a very nice home to the baseball program. Facility provided by the city, improvements and upkeep by the program. City and school working together to make it happen.

Why not the same for the softball program? Tower Park or the newly renovated Rossford Park would each be a great home to the LadyBirds program. The baseball program has shown you the blueprint. This too can be a win-win for the city and school.

Come on I have no dirty laundry to air. Heck I don't even have a kid in the program or at the school for that matter. And I know how to stir the pot if I want to.

This is about Rob and how he will do a good job with teach the girls the fundamentals of the game. I have no doubt about that at all he will do a good job. I truly think Rob will take the program to the next level and continue the direction it was headed.

Again congrats Rob and good luck.

That question was asked last year and was told no dice. The AD wanted the girls to stay on campus. The city was offering them lower Woodfill and was ready to do the work needed for dugouts fences just like highland park. The knothole legue was willing to pay funds to help like they have at Bartlet and other fields but was shot down cause of safety reasons. The AD didn't want the girls crossing 27 where they just built the new school in Town. No other fields were options either per AD.

So not real sure of The real reason of not moving but I have suspicions and I'll just leave it at that.

So to set the reord straight before leaving this thread. I have wished Rob the best of luck on here and in person.

New coach, new era - ask again (just not this week - or even for a couple of months). I agree that Lower Woodfill is a bad option. Too dangerous and not enough parking. Rossford and Tower Park should be in the discussion. If the softball boosters want to get something done it is up to them. You know how things work at HHS

Agreed. Lower Woodfill is a dump & it drains poorly. I agree with Death Valley staying as the softball complex. The shed, concession stand, & scoreboard are all there....also, football should be gone if that was the deal agreed upon. There are no where near 60 frosh football players now. Not Dale's fault bat the soccer field completion running late. Furthermore, let's not forget the football program floats most, if not all other athletic programs at HHS.

Football generates the most revenue, but we all know that the booster groups and the parents float most of the sports at HHS - but that's a whole other discussion.

If death valley field was the decision and is the answer going forward - the time is now to start the work. Soccer field completed, plenty of room for frosh and football sleds in unused portion of the valley. Those obstacles are now behind you. Caution tape off the infield and outfield areas - plant some seed and get it going. Plenty of things can get accomplished this fall to make the field better for the spring.
