I apologize for not having this out here sooner. Ashland travels across the river to Ironton where KY teams have always fared poorly. I was at the game last week against Russell and Ashland totally dominated that game. But Ironton earlier this year also put the clamps on Russell so they have a common opponent, yet most would agree that you can throw that out the window. Ram says Ashland isn't as good as last year. I disagree. Defensively Ashland is very, very solid.

Ashland can match the speed in the backfield of Ironton with Freshman sensation Quenton Baker. However, they'll have to replace starting center Drew Walter who fractured a leg last week. Hate if for him considering he is a senior, and hate if for his dad who is one of the nicest guys in town.

Can Cade O'Bryan and company contain the power of Schweikart and White and contain the speed of Lewis for Ironton? I think so.

Ironton wins at home, 28-6.

Me and doc have debated this topic all season and I stand by my statement: Ashland is not better then they were last year. They do some things this year that they couldn't do last year, but are no where near as good a passing team as last year. They are run heavy and that will hurt them in a game like this. The D is solid and the line play is solid, but the offense is not as balanced.

I hope Ashland pulls this one out, and I expect it to be a great high school football game.

I would love to see this game. This is one of the most interesting games this week.

Ashland would have to be 2 TD's better than Ironton to come away with the win at the Tank. I'll take the Tigers over the Tomcats, 27-20

This game is appealing to me for many reasons. Both teams are opponents of JC in the upcoming weeks. It appears Ashland is as good if not better than they were this time last year, nearly steam rolling through opponents and beat a top notch school out of WV. I would like to see what the post Sam Hunter era looks like as well. Ironton, well there are still Ironton, it has been many years since I have seen them play a game. This game may be worth the drive across the River.

In the end though, I agree with Watusi that Ironton will probably win this one. Ironton is one of the tougher venues to win at, and a win here by the Tomcats will leave no doubts. Good Luck to both teams.

If a person were thinking about going to this game, would it be guaranteed that they could find seating?

I'm sure a person would. I don't think Tank sells out that much. There will be a big crowd, but I think you would find seating. Now, parking, that may be a different story.

If it's full, come on over to Raceland, I'll get you a seat.

On paper, I agree that Ashland was a better team last year. I believe that in the passing game Withrow is the difference. His size and hands made it tought to defend him. On the field, I think this Ashland team is better for reasons that are not quantified in stats. I think the commitment to team goals is greater. I don't think Baker would have been transitioned as easily. Just my stinky opinions though. I say in January when all the dust has settled on this season maybe we can discuss who did what. This team will have to do things like win at Tank and win more than one playoff game if they want to be in that argument. It will be interesting to see.

Keep picking against Ashland you big ole, well, you know what you are.

At Ironton?

Well the scoreboard already says Ironton leads 14-0 before warm-ups begin if that's the case.

First time I have picked against them this season.

Put on your comfy shoes because parking stinks over there. However, the stadium is nice. Large.

As for this Ashland team, one thing I don't see is arguing on the sidelines. Kids bickering in the huddle. Some griping that they didn't get the ball. I don't see that with this team from Ashland at all.

Well you rooted against them against Raceland. Same thing in my book. I'm going to handpick the officials for the Belfry game. :D

What do you guys do, have a lottery drawing to see who gets to pick the refs? Do you let Dicky draw the winning names? :irked:
