Another Day, Another Canadian Transfer

Lazarus Teny has enrolled at June Buchanan School...he's a 2015 SG/SF.

I heard the KHSAA has already ruled him eligible. Hearing JBS may get another Canadian or two, as well...

I said this before and I'll say it again, does Canada have any players left?. Seriously, what is the attraction to Kentucky?

Easy to get eligible and AAU connections. Let me guess he played for Maxey or has some connection to a former Louisville player?

The KHSAA is the butt of many jokes. I could give a cup of horse urine about what happens in Knott Co but this is laughable.

Are they going to play duel National Anthems at the 14th and 15th region tournaments this year.

Why are Canadians able to move without their parents but just a regular American kid would be ruled ineligible because of the bonafide change rule? Am missing something?

Great question. I would like to hear the KHSAA position on that too.

I bet the "American kid" moving without his parents and being eligible happens a lot more than we realize.

I doubt it.

Much more often than Spindoc wants to cop to. I've seen dozens in just the five years I've lived in Bardstown.

The bylaws are written that outline in black and white the format for a transfer, domestic and otherwise, to move from one school to another. They are clear about emancipation of an athlete. The are clear that a move is an entire household move, regardless if the child has been emancipated. Very clear. Now, with that said, do the "American kids" manage to pull one over on the KHSAA? Do they lie and the kid moves in with an AAU coach or a relative or an assistant coach? Sure. But my point is that they have to lie to do it. My question is this then: Where are the Canadian kids' parents? Where are those households? And they're sure not foreign exchange and placed randomly because even if you could go under that guise, it's still only a one year deal with a foreign exchange kid. Bylaws are perfectly clear on that one. So, if you're saying that Johnny Smith from Hoptown "moved" family and all to Scott County on paper, but not in reality, then I'm with you. But for the transfer to pass the smell test, that has to be submitted and approved and "excepted" by the organizations under bylaw 6. How do the Canadian kids fly?

Breaking the rules through loopholes is not that difficult. If your community supports bringing in outside players, it is rather simple. I am always shocked the locals don't get pissed that junior sits on the bench while a foreigner plays.

I think sometimes they do and become whistle blowers.

My community would not support it. There will be a day where we watch a team in the state tournament with zero locals on the starting 5. Rose Hill and Scott County have been close.

You may be right.
