I think the Boone sports community got a lot smaller when Cooper came into existence.

 

I don't think the creation of Cooper had a big impact on Boone County. Most came from what would have been Conner's district. Cooper, however, has had tremendous support over the last year or so. I'm shocked how many fans supported basketball and football.

Boone Co has changed to a more urban type high school I think with the way the area has turned over. 25 years or so ago BC had a total different student makeup.

Not only that, several areas (that are now all Ryle and Cooper school district) used to be Boone County and most of those areas are nice neighborhoods.

So GURU, do you think Boone is in a slow decline here? I think Boone played pretty well I just think Central had better players overall.

I don't think Boone is in slow decline. The team lost a ton from last year, but give this year's team a chance. This was one game against a good team, basically a home game for MC and they had a grudge to repay. Not sure what MC lost from last year, but that team was up 13-0 and had the ball inside BC's 10 yard line 5 minutes into the playoff game.

 

Even if this team doesn't do as well as last year, there is a ton of talent at the soph/junior level. I expect the next several years to be very good years for Rebel football. If there is a trend, I see the team's performance as having bottomed out a couple years ago and it seems to be rebounding quite nicely. Just one guys opinion...

Agreed, remember the days when there district touched the Gallitin Co. line? And every year BC's O-line reminded me of the old Nebraska O-lines.

I don't think many people realize how small Boone is for a 6A school. Last I checked, they had about 714 males enrolled. The cut off I believe is 700 for 6A classification. With 20 less males and a 5A classification, we would be putting Boone in the class as Connor and Cooper as 5A title contenders! Instead, we are considering the possibility of decline.

Absolutely not!!! Boone lost a lot from last year and the talk in Florence has been how young the Rebels are but I thought they performed really well. And, as mentioned by someone else, the sophomore class is loaded and the 8th grade class is loaded (so I am told) so I think Boone is going to be really tough for years to come.

Also on enrollment, I am told they have an unusually large Frosh class this year.

Folks need to realize that public schools with closed borders will be cyclical. Will not have a stud class every year. Down years will always be part of the equation. I am not saying Boone will have a down year either. They did some very good things Saturday night and had a very good chance to win at the end.

Didn't mean it like the AINT, I was just saying that with all the area schools that were brought up I was just curious to see if kids/parents may be possibly moving kids to other schools around the area. Oh, I know the tradition and the great teams that come out of Boone Co., I was just playing a little devil's advocate.

The only 6A win outside their district was Madison on a late touchdown. Not to take anything away from Boone's season last year, but there were no beasts in NKy 6A last year (or this year, for that matter).

The only win there I wouldn't brag about was Male because they had their worst team in decades...
