Somerset takes on East Jessamine in the VisitNich.com Bowl opener Friday at 6:00 PM at West Jessamine. Predictions?

Somerset will win going away. Look for Off. to get going and Def. to play tough, Maybe a shutout.

Didn't East lose quite a bit from last season? I think Somerset is going to be solid again this year. Give me the Jumpers by three scores.

Somerset 35-13.

East lost quite a bit. However they do still have some quality players. Dresses about 60 out for their Scrimmage. 5A School should be pretty Good.

Somerset lost a lot including two all state players. EJ has some good talent back and some depth. They should have fresh players because of it. Will be a better game than people think. Toss up 26-20.

Somerset will not be playing a lot of their linemen both ways this year, at least not start them both ways. Also East Jessamine has been very run heavy in the past. After the way the Jumpers shut down Bourbon County's running back it could be a long night offensively for the Jaguars.

I'll take Somerset 28-0.

Somerset's defense will be stellar this year. I am interested in seeing the offense. If/when the offense gets going watch out for the Jumpers! This could be their year. Since there will also be a new kicker for the Jumpers, I will go with a score of 20-0 SHS.

Somerset without any trouble.

I'll go with Somerset then I know they reload but they lost a lot from last years team didn't they?

Somerset lost 2 great players off last years team. This Somerset Team has the players to be real Good. 20 that could play for anyone and 7 or 8 more that can spot play and not hurt you. If the Off comes atound, like I think it will the Sky is the limit for this Bunch or Jumpers.

They lost some very good seniors but they should be just as good if not better this season. They lost 2 starters on the offensive line in Speaks and Price. Price has been replaced by Jonathon Perdue who was the starting center for Walton Verona last season while Speaks was replaced by Kegan Skidmore who moves over from right tackle to left tackle. I'm not sure who has won the job at right tackle. There's plenty of talent on the offensive line. The biggest adjustment there is that Speaks made all of the blocking calls the last 2 season so someone will have to step up and do that. Once someone gets the confidence to do that the line will be fine. At receiver they have to replace Storm Wilson. That one will definitely hurt but they have some capable receivers and with the addition of Tyson Williams they gain a very good receiving tight end. In the backfield they lost Alex Lange who was their quarterback and leading rusher. They should be fine at running back but either junior Tanner Gadberry or freshman Castle Hatcher will need to step up at quarterback.

On defense the biggest losses are Storm Wilson at safety and Trey Slaughter on the defensive line. Again those are big losses but Tyson Williams will help there and the others have gotten bigger and stronger.

On special teams they did lose about everyone. Kicker Trevor Hurd graduated as well as Alex Lange and longsnapper Taylor Speaks (who is snapping for EKU). Bryson Jones should step in at punter and do fine while junior soccer player Austin Hill takes over the kicking duties. I'm not sure who is doing the longsnapping.

Overall, if the Briar Jumpers can get solid play at the quarterback postion they should be even better than last season when they depended on a lot of sophomores. The loss of the seniors hurts but the sophomore class adding strength and speed should make up for that. The defense has a chance to be the best of the last 4 seasons and that is saying a lot. The offense will be the key to whether they have a good season or a great season.
