I believe it was Coach Dodd's decision to not play him after a drill in practice became a little too physical. There was no fight but I believe some tempers flared and Coach Dodd is an excellent disciplinarian and he nipped the problem in the bud before it became an issue. I understand that Clark apologized to the team and all the parties involved in the incident are just fine. Remember that January basketball is only good for getting your team ready for the March to Rupp!

Kasey is a strong physical guard that averages around 7 points and 7 rebounds a game! He also makes big plays defensively. I'd say that could have been a difference in the game tonight. However I haven't seen the game yet I'll probably watch the tape this weekend!

That is not so much the problem as rebounds underneath. Yes, Kasey

will help get a few more rebounds on hustle plays and even a few

under the basket, but it's up to Gill and Turner to get some of the tough

rebounds directly below the rim by positioning.

 

I agree with you on your other points. Kasey probably would have

been the difference in the ballgame tonight especially because of

his defense, but against Morgan and Fairview, two teams I believe to

be better than Boyd, weaknesses will show, even if they are usually

covered against weaker opponents by stellar play in other areas.

:thumb: thanks for the info and you are very correct, the regular season is just a time to work out all the bugs and get ready for tournament time.

While it is true that BC can win without Owens, tonight proves that

the Lions are very vulnerable without him. You must realize that

there will be games in which Owens will foul out and teams will

be at full strength and playing better basketball.

 

But you are correct in that this is a confidence booster for the other

members of the Lions' squad. I look for them to be playing even better

by the time the end of February rolls around, as will just about all

the other teams. How much room the Lions have to improve and

how much the Lions will improve, is yet to be seen.

Tiny, Sorry to come off that way all I was trying to say is that this match-up was to feature the 16th Region's best offensive player vs. the 16th Region's best defensive player. I'm not trying to take anything away from Boyd Co. I have the utmost respect for their staff and kids. I just think Clark on Owens could have excited the game alittle bit.

Casey Clark is a great athlete and you are right,

This was a great game between to teams that

I do believe he would have done a little to limit Owens's effectiveness

at the very least (at least stop an assist and force a bad shot, or stop

a transition score or two), and that would have given Russell the

victory, but alas, we will never know.

Anybody know who was the color man for the Russell broadcast team tonight? He reminded me a lot of the guy who did color for Rose Hill a few years back, but the play by play man that Rose Hill had wasn't there to carry him tonight. :sssh:

As for Russell...

To help their outside shooting, they need to establish Gill underneath.

He was in a position to post up for some points in the paint, but

Russell didn't get the ball into him. This should free up some room

outside and allow VanHoose, Blaire, Simpson, et al, to shoot the

3-ball. This, of course, is in addition to the aforementioned rebouding

problems.

 

I concur, Gill worked extremely hard to gain position, but for some reason Russell would not pass him the ball. Russell would just simply settle for the long ball and not run true set plays. I also agree that BC were two different teams with and without Owens.
