I also agree that BC were two different teams with and without Owens.

 

 

They were winning when he went out, and won without him...Owens is definetly the best player in the Region, no doubt, but I wish everyone would quit dishing the other players for Boyd. These other young men play with an extreme amount of heart.

As for Russell...

To help their outside shooting, they need to establish Gill underneath.

He was in a position to post up for some points in the paint, but

Russell didn't get the ball into him. This should free up some room

outside and allow VanHoose, Blaire, Simpson, et al, to shoot the

3-ball. This, of course, is in addition to the aforementioned rebouding

problems.

 

I concur, Gill worked extremely hard to gain position, but for some reason Russell would not pass him the ball. Russell would just simply settle for the long ball and not run true set plays. I also agree that BC were two different teams with and without Owens.

 

I dont think they are two different teams I think

they learned that they do not haft to rely on

him to do it all.And that they can win without

him on the floor.This has only made them a

stronger team. :thumb:

Hope you are right Tiny. It will be interesting to see how Boyd builds off of this win. Everyone knows that Owens is still the man, but now if the rest of the team will get involved to where Owens doesn't have to do it all, they can become very dangerous as a TEAM.

Will Kasey Clark play the next game?

I saw Kasey refereeing some upward basketball games at Russell Christian this morning and he said that yes he would play the next game and that he was extremely sorry. He felt like he let his team down, he was really hard on himself. It was cool to see him giving all the little ones that were playing his autograph. I know that my "Little Blue Blazer" thinks that Kasey hung the moon.

Glad to hear that about Kasey. I just hope his team will surround him with the same support that the BC players showed toward Owens after his ordeal at JC. And yes these kids need to realize that the little guys do look up to them and that they are their role models.

I'm sure they will all these kids grew up together and played AAU together. They are really close on and off the floor. I know he apologized to the team as a whole before the game and they were all "cool" :thumb:

As for Russell's performance against Boyd Co, I agree with Red Shift and BucksFan. Russell has to establish an inside game or they will find themselves in the same situation that UK did against Kansas. When you have no one to go inside, that puts to much pressure on the outside game. Gill worked his tail off to get open all night and I think he had 3 or 4 touches in the paint. That won't get it done in the Regionals. I think most of that was due to Kasey not being in the lineup because he is an intelligent passer and he gets the ball to the open player.

Once we get our heads on straight we'll be fine. Remember our start last season and where we ended up. Dodd knows what he's doing and we'll win teh 63rd.

 

The real question is can we beat Morgan?

Don't discount the defense that was played against Gill by Billy Blanton. I think too much importance s being put on Gill since he has only been a supporting cast member his whole career. Everyone knows that Vanhoose and Blair are going to take most of the shots, BC just put the clamps down on Vanhoose after he had just a hot start, but a good player like him is most always going to get his points.

Gill is a track man in the jumping events. Im pretty sure that hes getting looked at by colleges already.

You are right about Blanton's defense. I've always thought he was one of the Region's most underrated players. Also, there's no question that Vanhoose, Blair, and Clark are the go to guys for Russell. My point is that unless Russell can replace Derek Sloan in the post, Russell doesn't have a chance in the Region. Gill, Lavender, or Turner has to step up and take some pressure off the outside game or Russell will be an underachiever. Gill has been the most consistent and his 26 pt game against Raceland at least shows what he might be able to do if he get's some touches. I think he's shooting over 70% this year but only shoots 5 or 6 times a game!
