July 1, 201214 yr This year alone? Aaron Hill, easily... Hill - 11HR, 38RBI, .301/.362/.516/ .878 BP - 10HR, 46RBI, .288/.330/.446/.776 Pretty easy decision based on the numbers up through this point of the season. No doubt BP is the better overall player, but so far this season Aaron Hill is having a much better offensive season. Much better is a severe stretch. He's having a better offensive season by a finger nail.
July 1, 201214 yr Everybody knows it. Guys on TBS didn't have the guts to ask PETA Tony about it. You're failing to recognize the fact that managers don't have all that many choices and they have to make sure every team has a player. No doubt BP deserves to be there over Uggla. That's not La Russa's fault...
July 1, 201214 yr Johnny Cueto @JohnnyCueto I'm not concerned with being left off the All Star roster. It would've been nice but my only focus is winning the World Series.
July 1, 201214 yr Much better is a severe stretch. He's having a better offensive season by a finger nail. .100 OPS is a pretty significant difference...
July 1, 201214 yr .100 OPS is a pretty significant difference... 8 RBI is better. It's a very slight edge and BP's defense puts his ahead easily IMO.
July 1, 201214 yr 8 RBI is better. It's a very slight edge and BP's defense puts his ahead easily IMO. Aaron Hill has had 84 PA's with RISP BP has had 113 PA's with RISP Give Hill 29 more PA's with RISP and those RBI totals would be a lot closer, and probably in Hill's favor That's not really something they can control...
July 1, 201214 yr Author Pretty simple question guys, and be honest about it. If the fight doesn't happen 2 years ago are Phillips and Cueto on the team? The fact that neither were even listed as a final candidate pretty much tells me that LaRussa was insistent that neither player is on the squad.

Blame La Russa and the players for not having Cueto all you want. Blame the fans and players for not having BP. Does La Russa have any control over the final 5? I have no idea who picks those...

My point exactly. If you have to dig that deep to make your case for him it's pretty close. BP's defense easily gets him the edge.
July 1, 201214 yr 8 RBI is better. It's a very slight edge and BP's defense puts his ahead easily IMO. Phillips is hitting in the cleanup slot. Hill has been hitting in the #2, #7 and #8 slots quite a bit. And the 60-point OBP edge and 100-point OPS edge are pretty significant, too. Edited July 1, 201214 yr by westsider

July 1, 201214 yr My point exactly. If you have to dig that deep to make your case for him it's pretty close. BP's defense easily gets him the edge. I'm not digging deep. Those are the facts. The reason BP has more RBI's is the fact he has more chances, which is completely out of the players control. Every other number favors Hill. BP is a better overall player, but Hill is more deserving for the first half of this season. BTW, you never answered with who BP should replace, keeping in mind that La Russa doesn't have any control over the fans, players and the fact that every team has to have a player.
July 1, 201214 yr You not answering my question is a yes in my book. I answered your question. I clearly said both players deserve to be on the team. I'm not really sure how you missed it. You're just placing the blame for Phillips in the wrong place. Uggla getting voted in ruined any chance he had. Cincy needs to step up and vote for BP. Place all the blame for Cueto on La Russa if you want.
July 1, 201214 yr La Russa had to pick a #Padre & a pitcher, so he took Street. That couldn't have helped Cueto, McDonald, Bumgarner & others.
