July 1, 201214 yr Phillips is the best overall 2B in the NL, and it's not even close. Then he should have been voted in by the Fans or Players. La Russa had to pick somebody from the Astros...
July 1, 201214 yr He wouldn't have pitched, but still give him the honor by naming him, and then replace him on the roster. Why wouldn't he pitch?
July 1, 201214 yr No way Lance Lynn should have made it. Blame the players. They voted him in 10 days ago, before his last 2 terrible outings.
July 1, 201214 yr Author The ultimate blame is one the fans for not voting Phillips as the starter like he deserved, but you know he's picked if not for the incident 2 years ago.

July 1, 201214 yr Because he will start next Sunday. They changed that rule this year. You can start on Sunday and still pitch in the ASG and treat it like a bullpen session.
July 1, 201214 yr Author They changed that rule this year. You can start on Sunday and still pitch in the ASG and treat it like a bullpen session. Never knew there was a rule stating you couldn't pitch if you pitched Sunday. The Reds would not want Cueto to pitch regardless of any rule. They plan on starting him first game back against the Cards.

They plan on starting him first game back against the Cards. Last year if they pitched on Sunday, they were replaced on the team by someone else. They said on the selection show that if you pitched on the Sunday before you could pitch this year and treat it as a bullpen session.

July 1, 201214 yr Author Realistically Aaron Hill should have been the starter this year. Disagree. He's got a a little better average, and one more HR, but Phillips is the by far the best defensively. Who would you rather have on your team based on this year alone?
July 1, 201214 yr Author John Fay @johnfayman Baker blames Phillips, Cueto snub on the fight with St. Louis. "I'm a little upset this morning." #reds Everybody knows it. Guys on TBS didn't have the guts to ask PETA Tony about it.
July 1, 201214 yr Disagree. He's got a a little better average, and one more HR, but Phillips is the by far the best defensively. Who would you rather have on your team based on this year alone? This year alone? Aaron Hill, easily... Hill - 11HR, 38RBI, .301/.362/.516/ .878 BP - 10HR, 46RBI, .288/.330/.446/.776 Pretty easy decision based on the numbers up through this point of the season. No doubt BP is the better overall player, but so far this season Aaron Hill is having a much better offensive season.
