That was fun to watch. I was actually nervous for the guy.

In the 9th inning, I'm much more nervous for the fielders than I am the pitcher when perfection is on the line. Third baseman made a tough play to seal it.

Cain now something like 8-2 with a sub 2.20 ERA on the season.

 

Nice to see the perfect game; even nicer to see someone living up to the sweet long-term deal.

Are they seriously discussing on Mike and Mike right now whether or not Cains perfect game has value because he only had 14 Strike outs?

I was listening to it. The main arguement was which pitching performance was better, Kerry Wood's one-hitter with 20 K's or Matt Cain's perfect game with 14 K's. They even had Timmy K on there talking about it as well.

They did actually. I know that they said Wood's was 105 and I believe they said Cain's was a 102, maybe 101.

 

Golic was saying that he thought the pitching performance of Wood's was more impressive. While Greenie took the side of Cain. He then made an asanine comment that the strikeouts really didn't matter because it was no different than a ground out. Either way its, one out. Golic came back with a comment that any semi-intelligent person who have and said, "we are talking about a pitchers personal performance, so the strikeouts matter".

I will never forget Kerry Wood's performance. Flat out dominating. 20 K's, 1 hit, year of high hopes from the Cubs to boot I actually got to see Wood pitch a couple seasons later and he was really solid.

From 9/16/88 when Browning threw his perfect game until 5/18/04 when Randy Johnson threw his perfect game there was 5 perfect games between those years, that's almost a 16 year period with 5 perfect games...Since 7/23/09 when Buehrle threw his perfect game until now there have already been 5 perfect games + 9 no hitters, that's in a little less than 3 year period...Pretty Crazy I just looked it up on espn because I never remember no hitters/perfect games happening so frequently...
