June 11, 201214 yr No of course not but he is the best option on this team or in the minors most likely. I don't see a trade coming anytime soon. If he gives the Reds 70 RBI I will consider it a success. Those numbers would certainly be nice, I'm just so tired of seeing numbers like that tied to a .200 average...Gomes, Ludwick and even Stubbs he isn't much better...I have never seen guys year in and year out that swing at everything as hard as they can in hopes of making contact and putting one over the fence... I feel like we will see a trade in the next few weeks... Edited June 11, 201214 yr by nkufan23
June 11, 201214 yr I never said I was infatuated...He does have experience whether good or bad I don't think that matters at this point with the options at AAA...Harris has had his chance, Costanzo has had a chance...Their is no reason to play a man down while Stubbs is battling an injury...He has been playing the best ball in AAA since arriving there...I don't get starry eyed over anyone, have you looked into my eyes? There is a reason the Reds snatched him out of an independent league and that is, the Reds offense off the bench is terrible and they lack a lefty...Trust me he wasn't signed to stay at AAA, either he produces and gets called up or he sucks and gets let go...Right now he is proving that he want's another shot at a Big League Roster spot...It won't be much longer if he keeps producing before we see him...The Reds didn't just need another player to fill in at AAA they already have Willie Freakin Harris, Gathright was signed to see if he could prove himself worthy of a promotion and so far he hasn't failed...What does pop have to do with it, the Reds don't need pop off the bench they need someone that can get on base better than what they already have... The Reds have simply a terrible bench and I keep up on the Reds Farm system, you can't really do any worse than the Reds have so far on the bench...If someone is tearing it up in AAA or at any level I will point it out...If the Reds were an Offensive Juggernaut I wouldn't... The Reds offensive outside of a few guys Sucks and that's the bottom line... Well Gathright sucks too so call him up, he'll fit right in. He's been given multiple chances to be a big league player since 2004 and he has failed each time. He is not worth a spot on the 40 man roster.

June 11, 201214 yr ^ I'd be pretty happy with 20 HR and 46 RBI out of LF right about now. ( I know he doesn't play LF for the White Sox)
June 11, 201214 yr Well Gathright sucks too so call him up, he'll fit right in. He's been given multiple chances to be a big league player since 2004 and he has failed each time. He is not worth a spot on the 40 man roster. Was Willie Harris worth a 40 man spot? He got one and he is absolutely terrible...He can't even hit .250 at AAA...Is Costanzo worth a 40 spot, what about Brackman and his 9.87 ERA at AAA and +10 ERA in A Ball this year...Gathright has had some success in the big leagues whether you want to admit it or not...He is at least someone that would be worth bringing up while Stubbs is nursing an injury... Gathright was at one time the 87th best prospect in the game, higher than Stubbs ever was...Stubbs has power and I'm not trying to compare the 2 at all but if Stubbs is hurt Gathright isn't going to hurt this team...Stubbs in my mind has way more potential and is the better player for sure I will admit that, however Gathright has had more success AVG and OBP wise both in the Majors and Minors than Stubbs...He also has better numbers than anyone on the Reds bench...Just for fun here are some interesting career numbers, both Major and Minors...Also he is younger than Cairo, Harris and Valdez... I don't want too hear the power numbers argument again either, Power isn't everything...One of the problems with the Reds right now is too many of their guys are infatuated with Power...Joey Gathright is more than deserving of being on the Reds bench, maybe not many other teams but we aren't talking about other teams we are talking about the Reds and they have one of the worst benches in baseball...Factor in Gathrights speed with him being a Left Handed Hitter and you have a pretty solid bench player...I also want to point out that you said Gathright has failed each time in the Majors and that's false...In 2006 in 263 PA he hit .262 with a .332 OBP and in 2007 in 231 PA he hit .307 with a .371 OBP...Once again I don't feel Gathright is better than Stubbs or is even an above average player at the Major League level but his numbers both Major and Minor don't lie he is at least average and he would be a significant upgrade to the Reds bench, which is sad  Just because I say I feel a guy could help the Reds does not mean I am infatuated with them, but I'm not blind either...With the exception of Votto, Bruce and Hanigan he has the best career OBP on the team and he would also be the second fastest player on the team, a lefty off the bench with a few spot starts and one of the better bunters on the team...Once again on most teams he wouldn't be valuable but the Reds are one of the few teams where he could be valuable still... June 11, 201214 yr Then you'd really love you some Adam Dunn. Actually given his ability to get on base I would like to have him...Dunn strikes out a lot about 2 times more than he walks usually...However Ludwick strikes out about 3 times more than he walks... With that being said I would not want him playing LF defensively... And thanks for bringing Dunn up the Reds LF situation has definitely been a mess for years...

First of all the fact that he was the 87th ranked prospect a decade means zilch. Secondly if he had shown the ability to be even a decent bench player in the big leagues don't you think he would have appeared in more than 44 games and gotten more than 30 at bats since the end of the 2008 season?

Secondly if he had shown the ability to be even a decent bench player in the big leagues don't you think he would have appeared in more than 44 games and gotten more than 30 at bats since the end of the 2008 season? Does it mean zilch that he is faster, a left hander which the Reds lack and a better hitter than Valdez, Cairo, Harris, Costanzo and Negron in his career in the Majors and Minors...Those are the options the Reds have had to go to this year... Gathright is doing everything he can right now to earn a promotion the past is the past it doesnt matter how many at bats hes had in the bigs since 08'...He is the obvious choice to come up should Stubbs go on the DL... I said it before this doesnt mean I think Gathright is some stud that Im in love with him but the numbers dont lie compared to what the Reds have and have had he looks pretty good, on 29 other teams maybe not so much but the Reds bench has been that bad...
June 11, 201214 yr  This is comical. You're debating on who should be the 25th man on the roster.
June 11, 201214 yr  This is comical. You're debating on who should be the 25th man on the roster. It actually all started by me posting my dislike for Luwick playing everyday and the fact that Stubbs not being Dl'd leaves the Reds a man short...Others were also talking about being short a man...So I simply posted Gathrights numbers so far in the ville and said how they should bring him up rather than being short a player...Then I started looking at his numbers in his whole career because I like debates I think there fun and Gathrights bat is actually the best option to be the 23rd, 24th or 25th man thats how bad the Reds are on the bench... And its an off day...
June 12, 201214 yr Is this the first time the Reds/Indians series has been mid-week instead of the weekend?
June 12, 201214 yr What move will the Reds make when Bray completes his rehab?...He seems to be pretty healthy and it shouldn't be to much longer before he joins the Reds...
June 12, 201214 yr Chris Heisey CF Wilson Valdez SS Joey Votto 1B Brandon Phillips 2B Jay Bruce RF Todd Frazier 3B Ryan Ludwick LF Ryan Hanigan C Johnny Cueto P I hope Dumsty gets hit by a bus.
