City Championship: Newport-vs-New Cath

Featured Replies

Next Monday Night 1/09 at Newport, The Wildcats will host the Thoroughbreds in the City Championship, always a great rivalry and great match-up. Who will win this one??

New Cath unless Newport has learned to play team ball...

People are singing the praises of Newport this year. Okay not so much, but I have heard great things about the improvement of the program in recent years, but I'll take NCC with too much size and good 3 pt shooters.

Well they still havent so New Cath by 10-15 pts I'd say. Lots of talent and there still not getting it done. Gotta wonder if its the coaching. I like the coach personally he is a great guy but his teams just aint getting it done like they should especially this year.

I know they are not playing as a team. One player (21) never passes, if he gets it, he shoots it or drives and gets a charge. They dribble the ball way to much (guards) and they are the most selfish team i have ever seen at Newport. All they worry about is the points. They dont pass inside when 32 and 42 are open. They take bad shots and just dont play as a team. I think NCC will win this one by 25. This is my view and i have seen them play a couple games. I hope i am wrong about the Newport "I"CATS.

NCC is ready to go on a nice run. Winning the football state championship has set them back a few weeks. I look for this game to be the beginning of a bunch of W's for the Breds.

NCC 67

Sometimes rivalries such as these, you really don't know whats going to happen. I truely believe the Wildcats have the better talent. But coaching decisions and what players are going to step thier playing level up, is really some deciding factors of the outcome. Should be a barnburner. (Good Luck Both Teams!!!)

The Wildcats had problems with Kiernan last year, you think they are ready to stop the big man??

Its not that the Wildcats don't have the talent. But their coach needs to get them playing better. When your team is playing selfish that is an issue the coach must address. There is to much talent to be wasted on this Newport team.

Well said BigStud, James Glenn and James "Shakes" Thomas is as good as anyone in the 9th Region. As a coach you have to get your players to play together and you have to get them to play thier best! Now, for the game against the Thoroughreds it shouldn't take a whole lot of Motivation to get the Wildcats to step it up.

Don't matter, without the right defensive gameplan, Kiernan is going to have a field day.

When was the last time Npt beat NCC?

I don't think Newport beat them last year, but they did the year before when the Wildcats had Michael Searp.

Actually it was in 2002/2003. Newport won in the regular season 56-40 and NCC beat Newport in the All-A 57-38.
