James Harden vs Jodie Meeks

Featured Replies

Meeks was never, and will never be a better player than Harden. That was the debate I was, and still am, involved in... :D

True but he has found a nice little spot for him in the NBA. Doing better than I expected.

Meeks is strictly a jump shooter, pretty much like he was in college, and never developed a dribble drive game, as a distributor of the ball and is not a very good defender.

If Meeks had spent one year with Calipari do you think that is an area he would have shown improvement in? I'm inclined to think he was what he was when he left Kentucky, but another part of me would like to see what one more year of college with a sane person coaching him would have done.

For the record, I'm not saying that year would have made him better than Harden. Just asking if he would have been a better player than he is.

I also took a look at another thread or two and in fairness a lot of people were saying that Meeks was better in college but Harden would make a better pro.

In fairness they were also wrong... :D

They are two separate issues. Harden's success at the NBA level does not validate he being better or worse than Meeks in college.

Luckily I am smart enough not to partake in all of these prediction threads without speaking in generalities and only if I feel really strong on an issue (e.g. Brohm/Woodson). :D

Harden being the better, more complete player in college validates him being the better college player. That part wasn't me making a prediction, it was me giving my evaluation after watching both a ton at the college level. The blue kool-aid kept a lot from accepting it...:D

Blue kool-aid aside, it was not as if Meeks was a scrub and UK faithful were blindly loyal to a guy not even worthy of receiving votes. He made some All American type headlines through the season though he was more pedestrian later in the year. Staying up to watch crappy Pac-10 games is not on the radar of most east of the Mississippi.

In summation, Harden was good then and now, Harden's beard is awesome, Meeks was a worthy selection to finish behind Harden in college, gametime called it and agreed with the voters that put Harden first team. :D :thumb:

We could go back over my man crush on Durant and how he is now one of the top 3 players in the NBA if that works better for you...

A dead clock is right twice a day. ;)

Predicting the #2 recruit in the nation would be a beast is a lot less impressive than nailing Florida to win it all after their early season tournament or seeing the specialness in James Harden. We can also bring up predicting tOSU to win it all or you not believing (if memory serves) in the MVC one year. :D

Thank God I was wrong about tOSU...

All reasons Harden was a better college player, draft prospect and pro. Some just didn't want to listen back then...

Some just can't see through those blue colored glasses.

Wasn't saying who was or wasn't the better college player, I'm just saying Harden never went off like that. In fact there haven't been many who have.

That's all you can say, so there's that...

Really that is all you can say? I'm struggling to see a huge difference in production between the two in college.
