May 19, 201214 yr I'm not necessarily trying to second guess Dusty here again. However, why use Ludwick as the DH? Why not Heisey? Ludwick is as good defensively. Also, Heisey has normally thrived in a pinch hitting role. I would think he would be more comfortable getting off the bench 3-4 times a game to swing the bat. A minor point but sometimes little things like that make a big difference. That's a fantastic point.

What is it that makes them so vulnerable to a guy that throws from the left side and maybe breaks 90 half a dozen times in the course of a game. Is anybody else as sick as I am of this team getting shut down by a middle of the road starter? Heaven forbid that they have to face Jamie Moyer when they face the Rockies. This offense is pathetic, Andy Pettite is NOT Cy Young.

May 19, 201214 yr The Reds offense, as I stated at the beginning of the year, has way to many free swingers in this W lineup, to ever string lots of hits together. With so many guys that strikeout, so often, it is hard to have big innings. If I had to guess, I would say Pettite won't have another outing this year where he looks like he did last night. He may not have another outing where he makes it to the 7th inning. Leave it to the Reds, they can make any average pitcher look great!

They are last in the National League in all three categories — batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Zack Cozart, the current leadoff man, is in a deep slide. He entered Friday’s game 3-for-his-last-28. He was hitting .186 in the month of May. Drew Stubbs hit .094 with a .147 on-base in his seven games in leadoff. Brandon Phillips, the leadoff man on Opening Day, hit .208 with a .240 on-base in his six games in the leadoff spot. Reds manager Dusty Baker moved Phillips down after he injured his hamstring. The solution for now will be to try to get Cozart going. “I don’t believe in the word slump,” Baker said. “I believe it’s a very unfortunate period of time. Imo even Scott Podesdnik who the Red Sox just obtained from the Phillies would have been a plus. Podesdnik hasn't played a major league game since 2010. He sucks. It would have been nice to have Bourn but we likely wouldn't have Latos if that was the case.
