No coach bases a team just on tryouts.

Then why invite kids to try out if they don't get a fair shot? Maybe because his coach was one of the ones choosing the team??

My guess (key word) is that coaches have a general idea of kids they KNOW are going to make the team. There are a few spots that are so close that the tryout will have a great deal of influence on.

 

Let's say this was a 2014 team. I already know that I'm taking Hatton, Snyder, Grundy, etc. Unless they completely dog the tryout they're on the team. That's just common sense.

It would be silly to not have Hicks on the team because of his tryout. Silly. And the rest of the core 6 for that matter.

I agree on some of your points but all of the kids there where talented! You could tell they where all deserving of their accomplishment but to tell a kid who just completely dominated you that he's not making it because another player played better during the year isn't right.

Maybe not but barring injury he'll likely be a Mr. Basketball finalist next year. It's no secret a lot kids make these teams off of reputation alone. I think his reputation has earned him a spot on this team. There are a lot of talented kids and even if Hicks wasn't a core 6 player he'd still make the team. No way he isn't one of the top 12 juniors in the state. If the guys are as good as you say then they'll make the team that will play Indiana.

Hicks top player in state! I know that I have seen him play a bunch of times, but you shouldn't be rewarded just by running through the motions with no effort..

Junior All-Star teams selected

 

 

Three local juniors – Darryl Hicks, Derek Willis and Lavonne Holland – are among six core players that have been selected to compete in both Junior All-Star games this summer against the Junior All-Stars from Indiana.The Junior All-Star teams will be made up of those six core players and six others selected for each scrimmage. The scrimmage against the Kentucky All-Stars senior team will be held June 4 in Lexington and June 6 in Louisville.

The Junior All-Stars will then take 12 of the total 18 players the following week to play the Indiana Junior All-Stars on June 15 at Heritage Christian in Indianapolis and then on June 16 at North Oldham High School. It’s the first year the series has added juniors.

Willis, who is from Bullitt East and has committed to Kentucky, will play in both scrimmages along with Trinity’s Hicks and Ballard’s Holland. The three other core players will be Madison Central’s Dominique Hawkins and Quan Taylor and Montgomery County’s Omar Prewitt.
