May 10, 201214 yr Author Not many guys outproducing LaHair at the moment, and if he keeps it up for the entire year, he'll be around for awhile IMO. :idunno: I agree Frazier should be given a shot, but not sure he'll be much of an improvement over Heisey and Ludwick. Speaking of Heisey, I think it's becoming more and more evident his value to a major league ballclub is as a utility OF'er and a pinch hitter. I agree on Heisey but I wouldn't trade anything of value for LaHair...How do we know he is better in LF than Alonso? He is a career minor leaguer...I'd rather trade for Billy Butler from KC and stick him out in LF :lol: All joking aside I do see where Lahair has some time in the OF but I am not sold on the guy yet...He is very slow...
May 10, 201214 yr As long as the Reds don't trade for a lead off hitter it obviously don't matter...It will be Cozart, Stubbs all year...However if the Reds traded for a leadoff hitter I would rather Stubbs bat 2 than Cozart...Stubbs is prone to striking out, he has good power and speed but doesn't make contact...Do you wan't Stubbs striking out at the top with no one on or do you want him striking out hitting 6th with runners on base...Stubbs strikes out too much to be counted on to be a run producer hitting behind Votto, Phillips and Bruce...Cozart makes more contact and would make much more sense in that spot imo...Stubbs gets protected by Votto and thus sees pitches hitting 2 and if that's what it takes to inflate his production and get his speed on base then that's what it takes...I believe Cozart has a much better eye and is a much better Contact hitter and he will hit anywhere you put him, he doesn't need Votto behind him so he can get strikes to hit because he actually has a sense of plate discipline... Forgive me for not following that logic. We agree Stubbs is going back to the dugout alot with the bat on his shoulder, yet you want him to do it in front of Votto instead of in front of Hannigan? Forgive me for asking if you're actually Dusty Baker.

The logic is he isn't going back to the dugout very much with the bat on his shoulder when he hits in front of Votto...Everywhere else he is...If putting him in the #2 spot gets him on base then so be it, you role with it that way...He is seeing pitches to hit and he needs that because he is a hacker a free swinger with no plate discipline...So being in front of Votto allows his free swings to make contact more often...Cozart on the other hand doesn't seem to need protection I believe he will be able to get hits and not strike out 200 times a year no matter where you put him...He surely could hit 2 but he can also hit 1, 6, 7 and 8 because he is more of a professional at bat with a sense of plate discipline...It makes the team better with Stubbs hitting 2 and getting protection from Votto...Opposing pitchers are pitching to Stubbs which is a good thing because even if he hits it on the ground he can get on base...Teams aren't going to chance giving Stubbs a free pass and then have to deal with Votto with Stubbs on 1st and the fear that he is going to steal, thus serving one up to Votto by paying too much attention to Stubbs on 1st...Again Stubbs has admitted that being in front of Votto has given him many more pitches that he likes to hit and is comfortable hitting... Jurrjens is a potential non-tender candidate after being sent to the minors this week." Cueto, Latos, Jurrjens, Arroyo, Leake/Bailey/Chapman...Looks really nice...Frazier would have never been sent down last minute in favor of the extra pitcher Simon, he would have simply replaced Heisey on the Roster...Maybe Leake would have started the year in AAA or they could have turned around and traded him or Bailey for something...

It is not a big enough sample size to proclaim him a #2 hitter and there are some red flags even with the gaudy batting average. He's striking out in 26% of his plate appearances in the two hole compared to 29% of his plate appearances in other spots. He's not putting the ball in play at a significantly higher rate. Also, his batting average on balls in play is a ridiculous .442 while batting second--the league average is right around .300. That stat tends to even out over the course of a season. This is a hot streak aided by a lot of balls finding holes instead of being caught--don't count on it to continue.

May 10, 201214 yr You do realize he has hit #2 for weeks now and the Reds are rolling and Stubbs is hitting as well as he ever has...Fifteen games ... yeah, a little over two weeks. Do you realize that 15 games in baseball is barely 10 percent of the season and that all players have hot and cold streaks? It's a long year ... keep Stubbs in the #2 slot and we'll see how it works out.

I said he has struggled but he is on is way back up after finding himself in AAA...In his career 50 wins 35 losses, 3.53 ERA and only 26 years old...Francisco went anyways and Heisey is proving to be nothing more than a pinch hitter, it would have been thievery by the Reds if they could have pulled it off...
