Why would you want a guy with a career .322 OBP in the #2 spot? It would better to find someone that can actually get on base.

 

He's obviously not a leadoff hitter. He's a significantly better hitter when he's in the 2 spot. I understand it's easy to look at his overall OBP/BA/OPS, but when you look a little deeper, he's a very good hitter in the 2 spot. Once again, not a gigantic sample size, but the numbers don't back up your stance.

His career has been as a makeshift leadoff guy. That has destroyed his numbers. He's been great in front of Votto. It's obvious he's a free swinger and being in the 2 hole in front of Votto will get him a lot of strikes. Plays right into his game, IMO...

Why would you hit Stubbs second and move Cozart down in the order? Stubbs would not be a good #2 hitter.

 

You do realize he has hit #2 for weeks now and the Reds are rolling and Stubbs is hitting as well as he ever has...What make Cozart a good #2 hitter? I love Cozart more than anyone on here but I would rather have Stubbs and his speed hitting second...If he puts it in play he has a chance to get on base, so wouod Revere thats what you want in front of Votto...Cozart can handle the 2 hole but I would rather see him down in the order after Bruce, I see him as more of a run producer and he is still young...

A CF with blazing speed that can leadoff sounds good...Revere makes excellent contact with the ball and gets on base, who needs pop...Hit him leadoff with Stubbs second and you have the fastest 1-2 punch in the game...Revere gets on steals second, Stubbs bunts him over to third or he steals third and Votto has an easy RBI sac fly opportunity...Its that easy:cool:...Move Cozart down to 6 or 7...Trade wont happen, but it would be a great move...

Gotta give Frazier a shot at holding down that spot, don't they? That would be the easiest fix. I think at the deadline, the needs will be evident, not to mention that a longshot to stick around in the majors wouldn't be one I'd imagine Walt pulling the trigger on in hopes he could make it next year. If they make a move at the deadline, I'd hope it will be a bigger shot in the arm than LaHair

Not many guys outproducing LaHair at the moment, and if he keeps it up for the entire year, he'll be around for awhile IMO. :idunno:

 

I agree Frazier should be given a shot, but not sure he'll be much of an improvement over Heisey and Ludwick.

 

Speaking of Heisey, I think it's becoming more and more evident his value to a major league ballclub is as a utility OF'er and a pinch hitter.

Cozart is not a run producer....He's a 10-12 HR, 40-50 RBI a year kinda guy IMO. That's solid production out of a #1 or #2 hitter, not for someone who is looked at as a run producer. I think Stubbs is much more suited to the #6-#7 spot than Cozart. JMO.

Cozart makes contact frequently. I'm not saying he can't hit with more power, but he hasn't. He's not a prototypical middle of the lineup guy. I know you're enamored with numbers, and maybe they can be manipulated to seem that he could fill that role. However, with the eyeball, he's a top of the order guy. Table setter for Votto. Needs to stay at the top for that reason, either in the 1 or 2 hole. Stubbs, while he's been solid in the 2 spot, doesn't fit that role if you look at the back of his baseball card. I hope he continues to succeed in that spot, but I have a feeling we will see a swoon from him there soon. As long as the Reds don't trade for a lead off hitter it obviously don't matter...It will be Cozart, Stubbs all year...However if the Reds traded for a leadoff hitter I would rather Stubbs bat 2 than Cozart...Stubbs is prone to striking out, he has good power and speed but doesn't make contact...Do you wan't Stubbs striking out at the top with no one on or do you want him striking out hitting 6th with runners on base...Stubbs strikes out too much to be counted on to be a run producer hitting behind Votto, Phillips and Bruce...Cozart makes more contact and would make much more sense in that spot imo...Stubbs gets protected by Votto and thus sees pitches hitting 2 and if that's what it takes to inflate his production and get his speed on base then that's what it takes...I believe Cozart has a much better eye and is a much better Contact hitter and he will hit anywhere you put him, he doesn't need Votto behind him so he can get strikes to hit because he actually has a sense of plate discipline...
