New Era In Whitley County Colonel Football

Featured Replies

If you want to throw stones, I can throw them back. The fact that Whitley probably plays in the weakest 4A region in the state has not helped them very much. :irked:

Weak is relative. Henry Clay, Madison Central, Scott County, etc are not weak teams! Sure WC's 4A Region may not be as tough as the other 3, that's up for debate. But it's not weak, no where close to weak. If you're going to throw stones, you'll have to do better than that.

I agree !!!!!!! 7 out of last 11 teams to make to finals other than Louisville schools come from this region and 5 out of last 6.

A weak 4A region? I did not know one existed.

I agree(and where have you been hiding lately?)!. I was trying to show how pointless it is to knock a team because of the district/region that they happen to be a part of, something that one poster has a history of doing.

Success can be measured in many different ways, but the way that I have always seen it(not saying it's the only or the best way), it is measured by how well you do in the postseason, regardless of the sport.

I have sat back and listened the last month to the noise that has been made about the coaching change at whitley co. Whether the change was right or wrong isn't the issue.Whitley co. will win a minimum of 8 football games next year.

1.they have 16 seniors returning

2.sl...lost 18 srs

3.grc lost 17 srs.

4.madison central lost 21 seniors.

The cycle has turned and whitley will be good.

As far as the coaching change. I have heard that it was politically motivated and that there was alot of backstabbing going on from people very close to Campbell..I also heard that coach Larry "cotton " Adams got up and walked out in a meeting between the new coach and himself. What a shame. He is a great person and a very good football coach. The new coach has walked into a good situation with not alot to fix.

It really doesn't matter much, once anyone gets into the playoffs in 4A, it's a one and done deal. Just like it has always been with any teams that make the playoffs in the district.

Wait and see.

Les,

Thanks for the reply, but that was really not the point that I was trying to make. The point is this, small 4A schools don't have any chance ,you are exactly right.Whitley will be back on track ,because the talent level will be on the rise. The administration knew that this was intact.whitley lost 7 seniors and dressed 54 players. There will be 25 fresman come out. You do the math. .....Gentry will look good

Whitley will have a good team next year and Gentry will do a great job, too. The district should be wide-open next year with noone being a clear-cut favorite.

We will see. I wonder what Thunderstuck thinks about the situation. What do you think Thunderstruck....................seems like you have had a tremendous amount of influence and opinions on this matter.

I completely agree with judgeone...Whitley lost the least of any team in the district and should make a run at district championship next year.

I agree with you Les also however its not a bold prediction since the district is 3 and 17 since Whitley went 4A. Whiley has had a 1st and 2 4th finishes.

In all due respect Les. Madison Central would argue with this.

Obviously stumbled this year against a very good Scott Co team, but in 2003 and 2004 Central was basically a play or two away from going to the State Semi Finals.

I have defended this district to outsiders and insiders alike. When people like nljagsfan were on here, they did too. Say what you will about District 8 as the teams currently stand, but the entire district is steadily improving in competitve balance. There is solid coaching from top to bottom and great/talented/hard working kids in every program.

The fact is Whitley plays 4a football, I'm sorry but that is a different type of football compared to 2a or even 3a. They can not change that and have to deal with it the best they can. Just as Corbin plays in a weak district they can not change that. Success is measured many different ways as said by a prior poster. Whitley will be successful in many ways. One, they will be more competive with solid teams such as Madison Central. Two, they should win more ball games. Three, they will make the playoffs. Four, they may win a playoff game. Five, they will be one of the better teams in the mountains. Good luck to Gentry and the change was needed!

I believe that Campbell would have won big next year if he was still coaching, but it makes the decision makers look good to make a change and the new coach do well his first year.

Abso;utely 4chs..................It seems to me from what I have heard and read that they wil make this new coach succeed the 1st year, so the higher -ups don't look bad.
