April 10, 201214 yr @JimBowdenESPNxm: "The Cincinnati Reds are prepared to guarantee a 6-year 72.5M to Brandon Phillips and I am predicting the deal will get done in the next 24 hours." Utter shock....Does anyone actually think this is a good thing if true? Could this be the same 5/$62.5M deal but with a 6th year team option or something like that?
April 10, 201214 yr Could this be the same 5/$62.5M deal but with a 6th year team option or something like that? more than likely yes. Is this a smart move for the on the field team, no. Is this a smart move to keep the fan base happy (at least short term) and show the fans, look were signing the guys you love, now show up...yes, I guess.

Utter shock....Does anyone actually think this is a good thing if true? I really have no idea how much money the Reds have to work with. I'm always happy when they are able to keep their top players. We'll just have to wait, and see how the contract effects the Reds down the road.
April 10, 201214 yr Looks like it's a done deal.. Brandon Phillips @DatDudeBP GOOD DAY #Cincinnati... Just got to say, THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME!!!! Looks like y'all might have to deal w/ me a little bit longer

April 10, 201214 yr I'm happy about keeping BP, but I certainly hope the Reds really are going to be increasing their payroll so they have pieces to go with Votto/Phillips in the future.
April 10, 201214 yr As a Cardinal fan I love the deal for Votto and Phillips. It will be hard for them to pay many more players with those two lock up over 30 million. I do like the fact that a small market team can keep their starts but at the end of those deals it will be tough on the teams.

April 11, 201214 yr Nuts ... a crazy deal. Six years? I wouldn't say it's crazy but it's a bit much yes.
