April 6, 201214 yr 5/$62.5 is a fair deal for the Reds. Only a half million more than the Braves gave Uggla and it's a year later. Plus Phillips is younger and plays the field MUCH better.

Just wondered as you seem to be a pretty heady baseball guy but for some reason have a real problem with the Reds keeping Phillips around long term. What is it that turns you off on BP? Imo if this team goes anywhere he will be the catalyst from the top of the order that will drive this team to bigger heights. Without him they do not have another leadoff hitter that gives the Reds what he has to offer. You can't dislike his defensive abilities and the fact that he plays everyday healthy or not.

I just don't think his productions is worth 12-15 million dollars per year. There have been times where he's been lazy and that's really cost the Reds in the past and he seems like a 'me' first guy rather than a team first guy. Those are all just my opinion.

I like BP but he's not worth 12% of the Reds' payroll, especially at age 34+. If the Reds are going to sign him, I'd consider a 3 year, $45 million deal over a 5 year, $62.5.

He only needs to average 3 WAR for the Rangers to make good on this contract. I think he has at least three season of 5+ WAR production. All-in- all a good contract for the Rangers as he should remain productive at a high level through most, if not all of the duration of the contract.
