The BOK is a great venue. NKU is a great school. I hope the 9th region tournament stays at the BOK forever. 90 + % of everything went great. My post is offered in the interest of making a good event even better: My #1 rule in business is ....never make anybody wait who is trying to give you money. Attack the issues of parking, purchasing a ticket & concession stands. Spread out the parking options on campus. There are more than enough surface lots and garage options on campus. It would take a few more workers but probably not all that many more. I would much rather walk 5 or 10 extra minutes from my parking spot to the arena than sit in traffic for 40 extra minutes. Have ticket sellers milling about (other than at the ticket windows). At Holmes they used to have a couple of sellers you could pay with exact change milling back through the ticket line. Also, there were ticket windows open around the back of the BOK arena on Saturday and Sunday. Best kept secret in Highland Heights. Only a handful of people were in rear of the arena ticket line at the time the main door line stretched back across the foot bridge. There have been several posts on BGP from avid fans who saw the line and left. If I did not have a presale ticket, I would have gone home and listened to CovCathiradio. Open more concession stands. Considering the cost of the soft drink, cup and ice what would guess the unit cost is....maybe 50 cents??? They sold for (I don't know because I didn't want to miss a quarter waiting in line)....$3.00 ...$4.00??? Think how much money was lost.

One of the first years (perhaps the very first year) the tourney was played at the Bank of Kentucky, the 9th and 10th regions played their championship games back to back, same night. There may have been more at that one. For just the 9th, today was the biggest crowd I can remember. (NKU opened the arena by hosting U of L with Coach Pitino. That night was sold out.)

I think Clyde's post was a tongue in cheek reference to what some may believe was an excessive estimate of attendance, earlier in the tournament.

If we can nudge outside the 20 year rule, I always enjoyed watching Jack Jennings who played at Holmes and Western Ky.

Dickie filled the stands of the Kenton County Boy's Club with people coming to watch him play at age 9. Nicest guy in the world. I remember Governor coaching Dickie's NKCC games Saturday mornings at 9:00 am in a suit, tie and spit polished shoes. The man had swag. We used to love playing his teams (although we usually got clobbered). By the way, Governor was in Suite 112 on Tuesday night watching Holmes vs. NewCath. I say hi every time I see Mr. Housley. He has no idea who I am.

Newport looked very strong against Dixie. They have the players to hang with the Colonels. I think Cov. Cath. will win but it won't be walk in the park.

Can't talk about the great Holmes teams of the late 70's without posting the pic of the worst non-call in the history of the KHSAA: They truely got robbed!

Dickie started for Kentucky and played in the NCAA Final 4. James Bolden has a looooooong way to go to reach that kind of success. I will go with Dickie. (I have a Cov. Cath. buddy who played in the late 70's against Doug Schloemer and Dickie. He maintains that as great as those 2 were, the Bulldog who caused the Colonels the most consternation was Bud Wimzie.)

You are right I am partial to the Devoto tribe. I am a friend of his father as I indicated earlier in the thread. If being on ice skates is what it took to keep James from scoring, Coach Brannen would have been well advised to hand out some more blades. Don't sell Mr. Bolden short. This young man is going to go places. Already being scouted by DI programs. I think his highlight reel will be filled with much more impressive plays... like perhaps a move that ends with a shot that he makes.

There is no dispute that Bolden's move was great :clap:. He had Brennan back on his heels. But, Brennan did not bail out, he stayed with the play and ... I respectfully disagree with the observation that in describing the play, whether the shot went down or not is irrelevant. I would say that whether the shot went down or not is the most relevant part of the play? Oh, and by the way.... he missed the shot.

Another way to look at the play... right before the end of the half Bolden makes a great crossover move. Faked out the whole gym including Brennan Devoto. While most of the rest of us were trying to figure out where the ball was Brennan recovered and got a hand up in James' line of sight. James missed the shot. (disclaimer: Brennan's dad is a buddy of mine. ...Bolden is pretty darn good. :notworthy:)

Cooper's performance tonight may lull the Bulldogs into a false sense of security. I sat behind some of the Holmes players during the Cooper/St. Henry game. After watching a bit of the action, one Holmes player (behind the floor seats) faced the stands with his back to the game for most of the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Another was asleep.

Big crowd tonight. The upper sections had quite a few patrons. NKU had afternoon classes ending and evening classes starting at or near 6:30. There was also a play on campus tonight. The traffic jam was pretty bad. I spoke to an officer tonight who said the chief of security was called. The campus police went in to all hands on deck mode. They described it as a perfect storm. The start time was pushed back 10 minutes and people were filling in throughout the first half. Holmes got key rebounds throughout the game against NewCath's big men. McDonald played a great game. Bolden was fun to watch. Fast but very much in control. Holmes sagged into the paint and collapsed on McDonald which opened up the perimeter. If NewCath could have connected on a reasonable number of the open 3's they took, the outcome might have been different. I enjoyed watching two great teams tonight.

Schult played a great game. Hard nosed kid. Fun to watch.

I wouldn't say we are overly sensitive, just discussing a point. A bit of a diversion from work, the mortgage payment, local, county, state, federal taxes, gasoline approaching $4.00 per gallon, the Iranians & North Koreans, etc. etc. Now with regards to the Highlands fans being too sensitive, I agree completely.

The kid didn't heave the shot, he shot the shot. Probably practiced it 10,000 times. A great shot plus some luck...ok. The draw... the Colonels earned a first round pick against an opponent other than NewCath and Cooper. Performance positively effected the odds of a favorable draw plus some luck.
