  1. I agree....but even if you ignore the "transfer" language and get to the substance of the rule there is absolutely nothing in there that even remotely suggests that what was reported int he CJ was a violation of the rule. Trinity Alum, my friend, you're sadly misinformed if you don't think the "Friends of Trinity" boys are not out attending CSAA and Jefferson County Optimist League games (of which 99% of the players attend public schools). Everyone's getting hung up on the fact that this supposedly happened in Southern Indiana. So what? The rule makes no distinction between recruiting public school kids, private school kids, kids from Indiana, Tennessee or Mars. You can't "recruit", as defined by the rule! And you have to look at the rule to see how it's defined in order to determine if there's been a violation. If the story had said: "X coach promises football player financial aid, no tutition required" I'd be calling for a major investigation. But, so far, no illegal recruiting violation has been alleged or reported.
  2. This regulation is poorly drafted. First, lets assume for a minute that the allegation is true--two ST.X coaches attended a middle school game in Indiana and spoke these words to a player-- "Hey young man, you played a great game today. I'm Coach Whoever from St.X. Have you heard about our open house, its November 1, 2007, stop by and check us out." By the way, those conversations take place routinely at CSAA games by Jefferson County public school coaches--Routinely. And from reading the rule, I can't say there is anything illegal about it. If you read the first part literally, a high school coach talking to a grade school kid would not be attempting to have that kid "transfer". Transfer suggests changing high schools after you've already enrolled in high school. Anyway, in looking at the the rule, recruiting is defined by the term "influencing", which is defined as including but not limited to the "promise of an athletic advantage, playing time, employment of parents or relatives, housing, scholarships or financial aid which the general student body is not eligible to receive." Well, I got news for you, once you start defining terms you're stuck with the definition you provide and nothing set forth in the CJ article even remotely suggests a violation of the rule. Now, I'm not sure what rule the state of Indiana has on recruiting or whether St.X would be bound by it since X would not be a member of the Indiana high school athletic association.
  3. I would be surprised if the football team has kids from 12 counties, the student body wouldn't surprise me. Besides Jefferson, I'm sure we have kids on the team from Oldham, Duece is from Clark Co. Indiana, I'm sure there are few Mt. Washington kids from Bullitt. Anyone know whether the football team has kids from counties outside of Jefferson besides these three counties I've mentioned? If you have a varsity media program handy that should tell you where they attended grade school.
  4. I agree Buddy...why didn't they ask Mr. Finch if his son was "recruited" to come to X to play football? I suspect they did but just didn't want to report his answer. Why didn't they report that Duece played 4 years in the CSAA for St. Anthony before coming to X? If rules were broken I expect heads will roll as suggested by Mr. Donohoff.
  5. Just IMAGINE....sorry having a John Lennon moment. But heaven forbid if there were a QB controversey at our little imaginary Knight team between say a Stein and a Zoeller. Never fear, we'd revolutionize the game and start them both side by side in shotgun formation, the defense never knowing who would get the snap or whether it would be a run or pass, Brilliant! Right??:jump:
  6. Great job Tigers against a very good Ballard squad! Holding and procedure penalties were drive killers in the first half. In the second half Ballard executed a nice half back pass to get inside the red zone for the first and only time of the night. The defense stepped up and held. On offense McMurray, Hayden and Beach were strong as usual--Lightning, Lightning and Thunder! Luke Brohm sparked the offense with a nice long pass to McMurray down the sideline and Lamont made a great catch with a defender breathing down his neck. PRP (who defeated Ballard early in the year I believe) and Central await. Tigers are on the road the rest of the way.
  7. I am an X fan. Not trying to be a wet blanket, I know football is a violent contact sport. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the game and the violence that comes with it. That being said, lot of the enjoyment is lost when your team is pounding on 14 yr. old kids. If I'm coaching Butler and I really and truly HAD to put in a tough yet physically immature and undevolped kid I would forfeit the game. Plain and simple, I don't believe the Butler coach had no choice but to put his son in at QB. I'll leave it alone now.
  8. I didn't see the hit, I heard he got hit hard after he threw an INT. Again, big difference between a lumbering, baby fat freshman at 2 and 1/2 bells versus a senior at that weight whose been lifting weights for 4 years. You generally get faster and stronger as you progress from a freshman to a senior. Anyone can see the difference in the speed of a freshman game versus that of a varsity game. Dennis Johnson was a freak...and the KHSAA changed its play up rule as a result. Jamarcus Smith, never seen him play, how big is he? How big is Lucas, how much does he weigh? Some freshman are ready for varsity, ie Micahel Bush, but its rare. Just because your program is down, losing players left and right, is not a justification for playing a freshman who is not physically ready. Again, he's a gutsy kid...I just hope he survives this season without a major concussion or other serious injury. Studies have shown that lack of strength in the neck muscles is a factor that contributes to the severity of concussions. Severe concussions make you more susceptible to reoccurring concussions. Multiple concussions lead to your season being over. Every year in the United States 1 or 2 high school players will die from a football related head injury, most of whom had previous concussions. So, it really doesn't matter to me that the Coach thinks its okay or that the kid thinks its okay, or that Butler's numbers are down and young Lucas is the best QB they got. None of that crap matters when it comes to the health and saftey of a kid. PS--It's great that Trinity's QB's haven't been hit hard enough to be knocked out of a game. I genuinely hope your success in this departemnt holds out. You think Butler's O-line will do anywhere near the job of protecting Lucas that Trinity's vaunted O-line has done?
  9. Thank you for your response to my post. In re-reading it I can see how it could be interpreted as a knock on Brutcher's ability. That was not my intent. No doubt the team can win with Brutcher....and had he been the day 1 starter (not saying he should have been, just that the experience would have been great) this wouldn't be an issue. But I think Brutcher at QB changes a little what X can and should do offensively. I don't think it's a secret that he's not the runner Zoeller is and Zoller is not the passer that he is. It will just be different. Does our O-line pass block as well as they run block? Can our receivers get more consistent so we can throw on first, second and third down if we want to? I also think leadership plays into this. I think Ben established himself as the team leader in the Male game. It's not an easy role to step up and fill. Sometimes the leader needs to motivate his teammates to play harder with words in the huddle. Sometimes these words are not well received coming from a younger backup. Not saying Brutcher can't do it... just that it might take some time.
  10. Was that the game that the JR Stein led the Rocks and Sophmore Duece Finch didn't play in view of his backup role on varsity?
  11. I knew about the injuries and suspensions as well...it didn't matter who they put back there--the outcome was going to be a lopsided loss. They didn't have to put a freshman back there. You don't put a little kid on the field to play against and get hit by men. They could have put a jr or sr. running back, wr, te, or an o-lineman at QB(any of those players should have known the offense). You think Trinity would start young Kragthorpe against St.X's varsity if Stein and his two backups (Smyth and Jackson) got hurt? Think again. You'd see one of the Duttons running the offense.
  12. I knew of the father/son relationship. I hope that didn't cloud the Coach/Player relationship. I respect the player's courage, I don't respect the coach's decision. Again, I find it difficult to believe they couldn't find a senior or junior to take snaps, run the offense and finish the season out. Just because Lucas was the "best QB" available doesn't mean he should be taking hits from 250 LB lineman. The "best athlete" available should be taking snaps at this point. Young Lucas looks as if he might weigh 130 LBS (he was listed as 5-2 114 LBS on his 2006 AAU baseball site) At this point it's not about struggling, its about surviving to fight another day.
  13. My hat is off to Butler and the kids who are sticking this season out. Cliches aside, football can be a microcosm for life--you get through this, you can get through anything. That being said, something else bothered me about this game. I am concerned when I see Butler is being forced to play freshmen in some very vulnerable positions, ie QB. I admire the young man's courage, but I do fear for his safety. He took a clean yet vicious hit on one of the INT's. I know its football, you're gonna get hit, this ain't soccer, rah rah etc...but he's being hit by guys that outweigh him by more than 100 lbs. In my mind there is a huge risk playing a 14 yr old or young 15 yr old kid against 18 yr olds who are for all intents and purposes full grown men. He may be the best signal caller they have due to injuries etc...but he shouldn't be out there on the varsity field IMO. Put a junior or senior back there, the season's a wash. This young man would have gotten better experience playing against the X freshmen. The risk reward analysis is a no brainer.
  14. Exactly! My concern right now is not with any largely ill informed irrelevant national poll. I am concerned with the health of our team. I hope all heal fully...but if Ben Zoeller doesn't come back full speed or has re-aggravations it could spell December Disappointment. As to the failure to finish naysayers, I agree. It has happened in the recent past and there should be a burning desire to not let it happen again. St.X has the talent to win state and not doing so would be a huge disappointment for this talented group. September 28 is gone, national polls mean absolutely nothing--Focus and Finish!
  15. Not sure exactly....ST.X is out of school Thursday and Friday this week so I think the game was first moved to Wednesday accomodate X. I have no idea why it was moved back to Thursday.
  16. Game moved back to Thursday. Baby Tigers will come out angry, they were looking forward to a walk-thru tommorow.
  17. Obviously, we'll never know how much better Cincy X is than Lou. X since they won't play this year. But if Cincy X's weakness is passing as noted above, how do the Trinity faithful think Lou X's D-Line would do against Cincy X's how O-Line in a game of smash mouth? Is Cincy X's line so enormous that Smith, Foy, Carpenter, Jones, Bruthcer and Co. would just get blown off the ball? I have no idea, just curious.
  18. Game moved to Wednesday @ Ballard, 5:30. Anyone know how the Baby Bruins have fared this year? All I've heard is that they beat Manual.
  19. He could live in Paducah or Pittsburgh Pa and still be legal.
  20. And thank you for a nuetral perspective on all the extraneous garbage being posted.
  21. It's Monday and we're still getting comments about umbrellas and brooms...cmon guys and gals. It was a light hearted play on the weather that caused last year's game to end early, ie. we overcame what happened last year. I ask again, what is so offensive about an umbrella? Personally, I thought it was goofy. I would have preferred that Coach Glaser and the Team simply shook hands with Trinity and each other with little fanfare and walked off the field as if this was just another leg of an unfinished business trip that does not culimate until December. But, that's my rather boring personality. These are kids and Glaser has a different personality. It was a great game and I hope to see a rematch. Both teams have tremendous talent and room for improvement.
  22. Tiger fan here...I thought the umbrella was a failed attempt at humour over last year's rain shortened loss. Getting over last's year's storm defeat was a running theme at X during Pride week (witness the gold T shirts with "Sunny Forecast, 100% chance of payback") I don't see how it could be construed as offensive to anyone, much less considered to be "classless". Corny it was, offensisve it was not. Does anyone really think Glaser believes Trintiy was responsible for making it rain last year? It was a joke people....not a joke about Trinity being a bad team or anything like that...a joke about the weather and the most unusual ending this great rivalry has ever seen. Get it, umbrella is something you use when it rains...it's not something you use to insult football opponents.
  23. Uh, this was a St.X--Trinity game thread, did you really expect the fans to talk about Male, Manual or Fern Creek, etc...???
  24. Bold Prediction--T and X will meet in the regular season and finals this year and the next three.....1--0 now, 8-0 from now til 2011. Never been done before in the series, I know, just my prediction.
  25. No, what was interesting was that Trinity's All-American linebackers couldn't seem to bring down Duece. Great Game Tigers!
