  1. Didn't realize this was the first time in NCAA tourney history that UC has beaten a higher-seeded team. Kind of hard to imagine really....
  2. Man, this is so cool! Haven't been this fired up about UC basketball in a while. Cronin deserves some very serious consideration for Coach of the Year. UC 's offense comes and goes sometimes, but they can play some serious defense. The matchup against OSU is going to be fun.
  3. Mike Brown has been noticeably less idiotic the past year, IMO. Here's hoping he'll continue that pattern and make one of the best FA signings in Bengal history. I think he'll get it done.
  4. Awesome - a Rick Astley reference! Worth issuing my very first "like".
  5. Ryle scheduled to scrimmage Bishop Brossart at Ryle's field this coming Saturday, March 17. I believe game time is 1:00.
  6. UC currently has the most wins over ranked teams than anyone else in the country. I love seeing this for Cronin. I became a big Mick fan after the way he handled the brawl earlier this year. When Gates comes to play, he's awesome. He just tends to disappear a lot of times. But here's hoping he keeps showing up the remainder of the season. UC could surprise in the tourney.
  7. There is also a race called Muddy Buddy held in 8 locations across the country, the closest being Nashville on June 23. I plan on doing that one (6-7 miles of running/biking with obstacles), the Mud Stash at Perfect North Slopes (Lawrenceburg, IN) on May 19th, and one of the Warrior Dashes - either 6/3 in Logan, OH (hour SW Columbus,; 8/11 in Crawfordville, IN (45 min. W Indy), or 9/22 in Antioch, TN (just S of Nashville). If those go well, I might try the Tough Mudder in Maysville on October 20-21 weekend or in Florida in December. Know some guys that have done this before and besides being in solid shape, you apparently need to be able to deal with some brutal cold (especially for some place like Cleveland in April).
  8. Ultimately I have to believe they would have been much better served to not schedule some of those sub-300 RPI teams for their non-conference games early on and instead have scheduled some respectable 100-150 range RPI teams. Of course, you need to win those games, but a loss in those games probably wouldn't have hurt any more so than beating a 300 RPI team (or losing to one). UC dumps a couple of those opponents, replaces them with and beats a couple of decent teams, and they could be looking at a 5 seed or so, maybe better. Great finish to the regular season by Cronin and his team.
  9. Marquette beats Georgetown 83-69. So UC will likely face the #5 seed in the quarters, which I'm assuming is Georgetown?
  10. Left him a cool $25M inheritence from it. My mom invented spankings with a hairbrush. Probably won't amount to much of an inheritence for me.
  11. Interesting. While I certainly think Ryle will have a very solid team this year, they - like a lot of teams - will need quite a few JV players from last year to step up and perform well at the varsity level. Curious what gives them such a high ranking at this point. Not complaining or questioning - just find it a little interesting for a team that didn't advance out of districts last year and lost some very important senior talent. Best of luck this year Raiders!
  12. 4 points by Yancey is disappointing, though he did rebound well. Dixon takes some stupid shots IMO. I would have like to seen a replay of the foul on Collins at the end. Maybe they showed and I missed it. You just don't see fouls called a whole lot on shots at the end of the game, so I'm assuming he got hacked pretty good?
  13. Conley is an absolutely outstanding hitting instructor, first rate. And that's certainly not to imply that Berger is not - he's also very good. But I was ultra-impressed with Conley the few times my son went to him a few years ago. His facility is a fair drive for NKY'ers, but well worth going to see him.
  14. Since 1990. Signed by Wallace Wilkinson. Got it for doing something in connection with my job.
  15. I live in the Section 8 part of Triple Crown. It is absolutely silly if you think about it though. They started this tax to eliminate unfair tax benefit opportunities for high income taxpayers, however "high income" was defined in 1969. However, they've never adjusted this definition for inflation in the past 40+ years, so it now affects people that don't fit the criteria to be defined as wealthy. Yours truly would be a case in example. I'm not hurting by any means and not claiming otherwise, I just have a hard time believing the intent of this tax was for people like me. But gee, if by paying a few extra hundred dollars in AMT tax I get to wear the label "wealthy", I'm all for it! :irked:
  16. Just filed mine tonight with TurboTax, as I do every year. Gee, I really love that Alternative Minimum Tax (ATM). :madman: What a crock. It was originally created in 1969 with the intent of forcing wealthy taxpayers to pay a certain minimum amount of taxes, but because it has never been indexed for inflation as are the regular tax brackets, it affects more and more "non-wealthy" people every year. For years it's been universally decried as needing a major overhaul, but apparently Congress refuses to do anything about it because they don't want to give up the additional (unfair) revenue it creates. Gosh, good to know I'm "wealthy" though. :irked:
  17. I don't disagree that it's tough for a team to totally dominate their conference the way Murray has - you don't see it all that often. The disagreement is that Murray's schedule brings into question the credibility of their high ranking. And though, best of luck to them. Always fun to root for one of the smaller programs to do well in the tourney.
  18. Looked up their site to see what country acts were listed and happened to see one of my favorite 80's artists - Rick Springfield - is playing there October 27th. I will definitely be there for that!
  19. Not sure if you're kidding or not, but I am. Not sure we'll go to the concert, but certainly possible.
  20. I am not anti-Murray by any means, TOG, but you did make me curious, so I looked up a few things. While it's fair to say not to discount them solely because they play in the OVC, it's also fair to say not to be overly impressed with them solely because they are dominating a very weak OVC and overall schedule. Some "other" stats: The top 3 RPI teams they have beaten are: Southern Miss (11), Memphis (20), and Dayton (60). Murray's current RPI (on the site I use, which is updated as of today) is 37. Between 12/15 and the end of the season (not including their bracket buster game), their highest ranked opponent is Tennesse Tech (169). Their overall strength of schedule is 216. The OVC is the 21st ranked conference RPI (out of 33 conferences). The next highest ranked team in the conference after Murray is Tenn. Tech (169). Excluding Murray, their conference consists of 3 teams in the low 100's, 5 teams in the 200's, and 2 teams in the 300's. The OVC has the 24th ranked strength of schedule out of 33 conferences. Like I said, I don't root against Murray at all. I sincerely hope they are the surprise team in the tourney. But their ranking, based on the above, doesn't seem justified. They really haven't played much of a schedule.
  21. Who are the top 3 teams (RPI-wise) that Murray has beaten this year? (I am curious - I honestly don't know).
  22. Mark Downs (Ryle). Already has scholarship to pitch at University of Cincinnati.
  23. Shawshank Redemption Field of Dreams Outlaw Josey Wales Last Samurai Gladiator
  24. Baseballs signed by 300-game winners and other notable pitchers (Gibson, Feller, Palmer, Jenkins, etc..). Have about 30 of them in a couple of nice display cases. Also have several other nice pieces of signed baseball memorabilia.
