Newport Catholic 4 Boone County 3

Featured Replies

Final score.

Sullivan pitched for NewCath, Laumann for Boone Co. NewCath scored all of their runs in 2nd, 3rd inning off Laumann. Lauman pitched 4 innings, replaced by #12 (don't know his name)--but he did a good job of keeping NewCath off balance the rest of the way home.

NewCath had 4-0 lead going through 4 innings until Boone put up 2 runs following a controversial call at 1B. With two outs in 5th, a high chopper was hit to Hightchew at SS. He had to rush the throw which was dug by Schmits at 1B. Ump called runner safe. Boone scored twice after that play. They added a run in 6th to cut lead 4-3. Doyle was brought in to finish in the seventh facing top of batting order. Tying run reached base but couldn't score. Hightchew made two spectular plays for 1st, 3rd out of the inning. Laumann drove a ball to deep right for 2nd out. Looked like it was going to be a NewCath route, but it turned out to be a great game.

Boone Really Hurt Themselves By Not Playing Well Defensively.

A very nice win as I predicted. NCC should handle Conner and take the Region.

Congrats to NewCath. When is the final played ?

Congrats to NewCath. When is the final played ?

Friday night at 7:30 (might be 7:00)

Who had the plate for this game? I heard his strike zone was very tight. What was your opinion?

Couldn't tell how strike zone was called, as I was down the baseline. But there were a number of pitches called balls that got a reaction from the fans behind the plate. The pitchers did a good job of keeping their emotions in check on the field--so if they were getting pinched, they didn't show much of an outward reaction. Both Sullivan and Laumann were good--and Brodsky was great. I spoke with some Boone fans indicated that (Brodsky) didn't really get the ball too much this year, due to rain wreaking havoc on the pitching rotation. Sullivan had his best outing of the year last night for NewCath. In the two games these teams played against each other, Boone held NewCath their lowest hit-outputs of the season--so the game really came down to some defensive miscues by Boone. I think NewCath scored their four runs despite having only one hit (through first three innings). Heck of a game.

Congrats Breds...

That is often how you win a baseball tournament. Someone steps up and has that "best of the year" performance. Congrats to the Breds. I would say they should win on Friday, but that is what is said about every team Conner has played in the post season so I don't know. I will be rooting for the Breds. If my team can't win it, I want the team that beat my team to keep winning.

So will the Breds start Schmitts in the final and have Cain ready to enter in relief?

Great photos.....Hightchew looks like Road Warrior Hawk and the Pitcher for Boone Co (assuming its Laumann) resembles Aaron Harang. Anyone agree?
