Happy sounds like a smart man......much smarter than the board members at Montgomery Co. that refused to hire Phil Rison as the superintendent last summer.

Can you explain what you mean by this? How does Phil Rison fit into this equation?

Not the only time they've made that mistake, and that is an unacceptable mistake to make IMO considering the salary the AD is getting paid....not to mention the fact that he has three paid assistants.

If I'm not mistaken, Preston LeMaster just finished his first season as head coach at East Ridge in Pike Co.

Wayne Breeden would be a home run hire, however, it is my understanding that he was the first person contacted when Rison retired, and would've been the only person contacted had he choosen to take the job. He turned it down five years ago when the job had everything going for it....new arena, good players returning, supportive AD in place, etc. I can't imagine he'd be interested now with the circus that has come to town, and with the new Supt. and AD serving as the ring leaders. Breenden has been around long enough to know better than to go into that situation.

Making Heffington look silly is not hard to do, he does a pretty darned good job of that on his own. Just look at some of the decions he has made at Montgomery Co. in his first year, specifically with regard to coaching hires.

Heard from a very reliable source that Jim Hicks will indeed be returning to Bath Co. as the head basketball coach. In fact, also heard that he has already begun contacting other schools to schedule games. :popcorn:

So I guess by your logic Chris O'Hearn should've been fired after the '07 season when Mason lost AT HOME to Clark in the regional finals? Yeah that makes a lot of sense. I honsestly didn't see many Montgomery Co. games this year so I don't really know if Wise is a good coach or not. What I do know is that it sends a very bad message to future candidates to fire a guy after one season without a very good reason. Maybe they have one, but based on previous actions of the Supt. and AD, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they don't.

Hundley would be an excellent replacement, but I'd say he is familiar enough with the situation and smart enough to steer clear of the circus surrounding the Montgomery Co. athletic department right now, and of the new AD serving as the ring leader. What coach in their right mind would want to come in and work for a Supt. and AD that ran off a coach (a coach that they hired) after only one year....a year in which he won 23 games, beat the likes of Clark Co., Mason Co., Marshall Co., Ashland, Male, and a couple of Lexington schools, and got to the semi-finals of the regional tournament. And don't try to tell me that the year was a disappointment because they were the pre-season favorite to win the region. NOBODY knew how good Clark was going to be and they were clearly the best team in the region from Mid-December on. It's really sad what is going on in Montgomery Co. right now....smh

A non-40th district team has won the 10th region only twice in fastpitch history, Harrison Co. in 1995 and Bishop Brossart in 2002......and both 40th district teams have been in the championship game for the past five years.

Montgomery Co. had two errors and neither led to a run. All four of EJ runs were earned. What killed Montgomery Co. was their inability to string together more than a hit or two in the same inning, whereas EJ mananged to get four hits after a leadoff walk in the second to score all four runs. It was cold for both teams, that's just part of playing spring sports in KY.

I knew NL had a lot of offense coming back, but 8 runs against Kosmecki is still impressive.

If some of the redistricting rumors are correct and Fleming goes back to the 10th then Fleming would fit the profile of your second statement, but may be less competetive in a district with Mason Co. and a tougher 10th region.

And my original point was that these last two years aren't the first time that Bath has had some talent. IMO, the '85 & '86 teams were more talented that the '08 & '09 teams. I'll also point out that Rowan Co. won a 16th Region with a bunch of talented Bath Co. boys not too many years ago. Who's to say they wouldn't have stayed at Bath Co. had the winning culture Coach Hicks has created these last two years existed at the time.

Yes they did, they won the tenth region in '75 & '77.....and have not won a district tournament since. So if my math is correct, it had been over 30 years since they had won a district tournament prior to Coach Hicks.....just like I said. :sssh:

I'm well aware of Bath's history and who they've been in a district and region with. My point was that this isn't the first time they've had some talent, but it is the first time they've won a district, let alone back to back district championships. In '85 and '86 they had one of the most talented teams in the 10th region and got beat in the first round of the district both years by a much less talented Estill Co. team.

Like him or not, he has done things at Bath Co. that haven't been done in 30 years. And don't try to tell me this is the first time Bath Co. has had any talent. They've had some very talented teams over the past 30 years that never even made it out of the district, let alone win back to back district championships.
