Tradition is definitely apart of it. There is not doubt that kids go into a situation, knowing they are not going to win. Think Dayton thinks they have a chance at Beechwood... maybe just for a few minutes.

I know he did - therefore I dont know why Dale would have an easier time against Lynne Ray. He did a nice job.

THERE ARE GREAT KIDS AT HOLMES HIGH SCHOOL. BUT THE WIDE VARIETY OF PROBLEMS KEEP THESE KIDS FROM BEING SUCCESSFUL BOTH IN THE CLASSROOM AND IN ATHLETICS. They just need to start booting some of these kids out. Stricter Rules + Enforcing Rules = Punishment (and documentation of that punishment) The more documentation - the easier it is to get rid of some of these kids. Then you start spreading the message that the SCHOOL IS NOT GOING TO PUT UP WITH ANY CRAP. It CAN be done !!!

Here are some example of being in better shape: 1. Recent State Champs 2. Beat Highlands 2 x in a row - builds team confidence for future games 3. Numbers increased in FB program 4. As of 3 weeks ago - a quality staff (being address presently) 5. Continued support (if not better support than past) because with each year comes new parents and more alumni! 6. Didnt they go back to traditional school colors? Just a few here, I am having trouble understanding why some want to argue this. I guess you need to prove the program is in worse shape! I dont even root for them - i just think they have a respectable program!

Where did their former coach go? Step down? New job?

Just fans and supporters of schools or coaches who misinterpret comments. Mine are appropriate and not offensive. It was a couple of threads ago when a "Yeagle Supporter" was going to take us all to court !!

How about this question? Whose challenge is tougher? 1. Rodenburg - when he accepted the job 2 yrs ago? 2. The next coach - who has to live up to last year's team who won state while losing most of the starting lineup?

Some of you people get so EASILY offended when you shouldn't. If anything, my comment is positive. This is just like all the Yeagle Fans out there that get all wired up. Lynne Ray did a fantastic job of creating and maintaining a great football program. I have nothing bad to say about him. There are people out there (maybe on this message board, maybe not) who were fond of him, but glad he was stepping down - because maybe the school was in need of a change. So rodeburg steps in and takes Lynne's program and got a few more kids interested and wins a state championship. I believe he had 120 + kids in the total football program - compared to around 90-100 before he came in. That is better than when he entered it. This is not knocking covcath or any coach. They beat Highlands 2 out of the last 18 times according to this message board - prior to 2 wins this season. Is that NOT better!?!?!? Once again, Lynne Ray is a hall of famer rodenburg is not yet). I dont know him, but i respect EVERYTHING he accomplished.

Part of the problem is NOT just the kids and the coaching, it is the leadership in the district. If you go out and walk through the hallways at Winton Woods, you will see the same types of kids with same issues - HOWEVER, shirts will be tucked in and kids will be held accountable. It might not be perfect out there, but the leadership is getting some of those bad apples out of the district. By setting higher standards and STICKING to them, you can turn some things around. BUT IF YOU ARE A COACH TRYING TO INSTILL DISCIPLINE into your program from 3 PM unti 6 PM (the time you spend with your athletes), the school is doing your program an injustice by not instilling discipline during the school hours !!!! THIS IS A TOUGH BATTLE FOR ALL COACHES! Before any school expects to have success in athletics or academics, they better begin to focus on the CHARACTER of these kids. Let's face it, this school is SINKING in all areas - and the school is not going to go bankrupt or disappear like a business - so let's get some leadership.

It sucks that he left. BUT I will say he left it in BETTER shape than when he entered the program. I think that is all you can ask from someone. I dont know if Roger Bacon is "better", but maybe the personal situation with family is "better".

The right guys can make it happen. I agree that the state coming in will be a problem. BUT programs have been resurrected in Cincinnati that have been dormant for years. The kids and athletes are there, but it is going to take a complete make over. I am not saying that they are going to beat CCH or Highlands right away, but some realistic goals would be to adjust the schedule if they can and try to find some wins out there. Even if they are not meaningful wins, the kids need to "learn" how to win. Unfortunately, they have the wrong type of tradition (apathy, ineligibility, lack of support from parents, alumni and community) on their side. I wish them luck and would love to see Holmes at a more competitive level !!!

I agree. It is amazing that how they misconstrue any little comment into something negative. I know Yeagle is happy at Dayton and that time away from Beechwood has been good for him. I hope he takes this position and proves once again how good he is. Good Luck to Mike Yeagle.

I have a hard time thinking a public school teacher from cincinnati will apply for this job - but who knows? He would take a 20% pay cut.
