Mason County 26 West Carter 12
jonathan.fraysure replied to Birdsfan's topic in KY Football (High School)
When seeds are the same, even-numbered districts host in even years, and vice versa. Being that Mason/Russell are in District 7, we've been under the impression that winning out, Mason would have homefield until Bowling Green. Is this not true? -
10th Region Cats Pause Preview
jonathan.fraysure replied to gold sunrise's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
This is the one, only and last thing I will say about this, because I feel very little need to defend my OPINION. First off, where I am from has no bearing on my prediction. I work in a profession where you have to be (and I pride myself on being) unbias, and this is no different. Secondly, as to state rankings (that in the grand scheme of things, mean very little) vs. where they will finish at the end of the season -- i.e. regional tournament -- I will quote directly from the article: And even while the Cardinals may get more preseason pub and likely higher statewide rankings, the prediction here is that in a one-on-one matchup come late March, the Royals will succeed in making their third consecutive trip to Rupp Arena. And finally, Thank you sir. Anyone care for a breath mint? -

My bad, I read region, not state. Sorry!! -

The 39th would never let this happen. That's why each district votes each year. -
Treg Setty gets some love

Treg is not, as a junior. Trevor, his older brother, is a different story. -

10th region coaches
jonathan.fraysure replied to jonathan.fraysure's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
He was Coach Hinson's top assistant last year (and for the last few years). Not sure if it's official that he's got the boys' basketball job or not. -
http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/demling/2009/07/las-vegas-day-one.html Mason County junior-to-be Treg Setty gets my early pick for Most Improved Player in the state of Kentucky. Wow, he's really maturing and growing into a nice player. Setty is playing for the Nashville Celtics 16s and played with a broken right hand and is just coming off a broken jaw, but he was still impressive. He said he has a number of schools showing interest, including Xavier, Oregon State and Oklahoma State.

Just like in the boys' thread, but here it is in one place, though there's been more changes on this side. Is this up to date? Anything I've missed, with the exceptions of the missing slots? I know some of the changes have been addressed in other threads, but here it is in one place. Is this how everyone else sees the slate next year? Anything I've missed? Augusta – Robin Kelsch (also added Jason Hinson) Bishop Brossart – Mike Code Bourbon County – Jay Bordas Bracken County – Chad Persinger (replaces Deron Breeze) Calvary Christian – John VanderMeer Campbell County – Scott Code Clark County – Scott Humphrey Deming – Jamey Johnson Harrison County – Mike Reitz Mason County – Chris O’Hearn Montgomery County – Keith Greisser Nicholas County – Michael Cofer Paris – Geoff Cody (replaces Cary Barr) Pendleton County – Chad Simms St. Patrick – Andy Arn? 10th Region Outlook 2009/2010
jonathan.fraysure replied to THESportsANIMAL's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
The most unequivocally true statement that has ever been said on this board. -
We can agree to disagree with this, I think. I believe the small school kids shouldn't be punished for where they play. I judge based on performance on the court regardless of school. I'm not really sure any list can be perfect, since it's an opinion, after all. Ranking one player lower on mine than yours (or vice versa) doesn't necessarily make it bad, wrong, or prone to be "bashed." But this forum, like most, have posters with STRONG opinions. To each his (or her) own.
-
Careful ... people have gotten shot for saying things less offensive than that. I'll have to keep this in mind. Just like I got absolutely annihilated last year for picking Mason County to win the region. Was WAY off on that one ... Calling Treg Setty just a "good" player is more biased than anything that's been said on this thread. And basing a top-10 list on college "potential" is not far below that. ============== And one player no one has mentioned that deserves to be listed on anyone's top 10 list is St. Pat's Stephen Mason. I'm glad Kyle Campbell made a couple of lists, he needs to be top 5 or close to it. Another couple of darkhorses are Bracken's Dylan Hamilton and Augusta's Colton Fraysure.

Somewhat true, somewhat not. Read your PM.

If Coach Hinson's decision was (at least partly) because of the uncertainty of the school being open in the future, wouldn't it be kind of naive of us to assume that Coach Douglas isn't thinking the same thing?
-
Agreed, 100 percent. Very good decision for Augusta to reach out to Coach Hinson and shore up their future. If and when Robin decides to step away from the position (I say position because anyone that knows him knows he would never step away from that school), they have a terrific "coach in waiting" already in the wings. Joker Phillips has nothing on Jason Hinson!!

The Ledger Independent chose its annual All-Area team, covering 5 counties in Kentucky (Mason, Bracken, Fleming, Lewis, Robertson) and 2 in Ohio (Brown & Adams). Overall, it encompasses 13 area schools in those counties. Congratulations to everyone chosen, and as always, a job well-done by the Ledger staff. Let the debating begin! http://www.maysville-online.com/articles/2009/04/17/blogs/sports_with_matt_montavon/doc49e7f81728091479139015.txt
