  1. I would disagree. yes some weird situations but the pretty boy ref about choked on his whistle he blew it so much. I feel he has some issues with some of Grant's players and he makes it personal and I am not just talking about last nights game. Hilton almost called a charge and flipped it on the fly and made it a blocking foul when the game was still close and the three point play took some of the momentum from Grant. The old dude looked lost out there with the other two.
  2. I agree I thought we Grant played good but without Kinman it seemed the offense at time was sluggish. Thought that Thompson played great in 1st half, did not touch the ball enough in 2nd half. Livingood played well crashing the boards and driving to the basket. We did turn the ball over too much. Got to give credit to SK, Sorrell was lights out and SK beat Grant off the dribble. Davis getting in foul trouble early in the 1st hurt alot as well. Braves will be fine just have to find their groove again. I will say it again that I beleive the key to their early success was good defense and ball movement. Early on in the season we shot a lot of open look 3's due to ball movement, we seem to be shooting too many three point shots that are contested, and I counted 4 trips in a row last night we made 1 pass or less after the ball went past half court and not in transition. Patience needs to become a strong suite down the stretch and finishing at the basket, we have too many slashers not to be attacking and crashing the boards. I know coach Kinmon will get them back to where they were early on. Remember it is not how you start but how you finish guys. Again congrats to SK nice win.
  3. That is not entirely true. They technically had an all NKY district before the move. It was Holmes, Dixie, Scott, and Grant County which played all the NKY teams in the past. When Highlands move up and Cov. Cath moved up it was more than to just make it a NKY 5A district. I will say that travel is not a problem when you only have to do it twice ayear, although it will be farther than they are use to traveling.
  4. I wasn't talking about just the Owen game. The JV does a nice job of ball movement. They just had a bad game against Owen. I just think that the varsity does not move the ball well and something that would make them better if they could learn a little patience.
  5. Grant allowed Owen to beat them down the floor and missed some easy shots early in the game that allowed Owen to get out to a big lead. Offense may win some games but defense wins championships. Grant needs to get focued on the task at had. You may have already broke last years record for wins but that is not enough. SK, Walton, and Williamstown all have the ability to beat Grant on any given night if the braves don't start playing good defense and quit dribbling the ball so much. They should take a lesson from their JV kids on ball movement. it seems like most of the time we are one pass and shoot or no pass and shoot. They have great ability and in order to call this season a success you must finish it out strong. You have a good stretch coming up and you must start playing to your potential and get back to what won the games in the early on for you, which in my opinion was good hard nosed defense and ball movement, inside and outside. If you live by the 3 you can die by the 3 and we have great slashers and attackers of the rim. Use that to our advantage. I thought that last night we got intimidated by Owens size and did not attack the big men, they will foul if you take it at them. The big kid for Owen only had 8 points but his presence on defense seem to be more important last night. Not to take anything away from Owen they came to play in this rivalary game and Grant didn't. Get it together braves, this one is over. Learn from it and get back to doing what it takes to get the job done the last half of the season.
  6. Please do not get rumors started. Stepp is not going anywhere. I happen to know that he and his family are very pleased being at Harrison County. Aaron is a great coach and works very hard to get the job done. He plans on staying for a while in Harrison, so please do not start any rumors on his return, there are a lot of kids on this message board and they do not need to read rumors about their coach leaving unless it is 100% for sure. Best of luck to the Breds next year.
  7. Prayers and sympothies from Grant County
  8. I felt like the Braves played to their competition. They should have won this game by way more than 4. They had WV outsized and really did not take advantage of it. Davis touched the ball twice in the 2nd half after leading the braves in scoring in the first half. Too many threes and when having the lead the braves seem to play like they were down 10 and not showing patience. It is a great win when you win in district weather it is by 4 or 40 but the braves need to realize that WV 24 hours before played a big district game and won against last years district champs then played Grant to a 4 point loss. I was very impressed with Ponzer and Sullivan, it looked like their legs were gone in the 4th. They did not get the lift on their shots like they did earlier in the game. I heard the student section say the district is ours, I would only warn the good braves team that you have to play these teams again and then play @ WIlliamstown in the district tournament, which is a hard enough place to play in regular season let alone in the tournament. I challange the braves to work harder than they have already to make certain that the district and region can be yours. Very proud of the braves this year living up to their coaches expectations so far and encourage them to keep it up, it has been fun so far.
  9. UK, U of L, WKU, several tournaments in June, I do not know what they will do but I believe that this will hurt them. Universities are getting ready for players to report and their upcoming seasons, not putting on passing tournaments in July. I hope the universities speak p on behalf of the growth of Kentucky high school football.
  10. Pretty good break down. I think that Grant has the ability to play with your top 3. Grant will play Anderson and a make up against Shelby in January and that will give them a true measuring point to how this team ranks with the upper part of the 8th region. Colonel Mike sure knows his basketball though.
  11. You can make your own rules and still participate in AAU, I am waiting on the universities who host all of these passing camps and tournaments to speak up when they start losing money. We keep giving and giving to basketball and they still won't support the things we want such as spring practice being moved, etc.
  12. Yes but it is Mike Jones not Bruce that was the old coach
  13. Great win for the Braves in a very hostile environment. Lot of physical play. The Braves should be proud of the win but must make make the shots inside. Hats off to the Williamstown kids, they fought hard and made it a great game tonight. Coach May has done a good job with the Demons this year. Can't wait for the rematch at GC, should be another great one. Don't have any stats, can say that the officiating on both ends was not the best. Called a double technical on 2 players from each team that were actually showing sportsmanship to each other. Let the big boys battle all night. Davis and Vice went at it pretty hard but they called all the ticky tack stuff out front. LET THEM PLAY FOR goodness sake. Keep it up Braves let's get another win. On a side note the Braves push their record to 11-4. The Braves only won 11 games all season last year. Great job coach Kinmon, Coach Utter and Coach Jones. Keep up the great work.
  14. Anyone at the game tonight would attestg to that. One of the most electric atmospheres I have been around in a long while. It was as intense as a district or region championship game.
  15. Nice game by the braves. They once again had a great 1st half and finished it out tonight with some great play on both ends of the floor. The guard for South was lights out tonight. He had 21 at half and threw it up from all over and it went in. Braves had several players play big tonight. Mike Davis had 16 points, 8 boards and 6 blocks. Cody Kinman and Kody Thompson were huge tonight. Livengood showed his quickness to the hole several times and made some key free throws down the stretch. Braves need to rest up because East will be ready to run tomorrow night. Keep playing together and as a team and you can suprise some people come March.
  16. Never mind I misread the thread, I see now that this is not talking about this years team.
  17. Grant County won, they will play Ludlow tomorrow night in the championship at 7:15 pm
  18. Congrats to Ron Kinmon and the Braves they are now 6-0. Big night for Mike Davis, he had 25 points, 12 boards, and 5 block shots. He had 12 in the 4th quarter. Kody Thompson had a big night as well. I believe that in the 6 wins, the Braves have had 6 different leading scorers. Keep playing as a team and don't forget that hard work does pay off.
  19. Good luck to Grant. Keep playing as a TEAM and you guys are going to shock some people this year. Go down there and win the dang thing and bring home some hardware. I will say Grant by 5
  20. I don't think it is a sense of humor more a sense of pride for the journey. They played hard all night and at the end you would have thought they won the state championship the way they celebrated with each other. Congrats to Trintiy on number 19, they are a very good football team. I son't think too many teams that were in Louisville this weekend could have competed against them on that night. I am proud of the pioneers and coach Marksberry, they did NKY proud on Satruday by their class, and fan support. I will say this that if T people think the championship game was last Friday against St. X so be it but I guess we can say that the public school championship was last Friday as well when SK beat a very good Male team. You will never have a perfect system but I really enjoyed the weekend of great football.
  21. First let me say that a lot of basketball and football district are not the same. Travel can be a major concern and to start at 6 pm would not allow some tems to make it to their game on time. Tape or no tape it takes longer to get ready than just putting on shorts and a jersey. Second, football is losing the bye week next year so it will be pushed up a week next year. 3rd I too love basketball and like watching them play but not that many teams ate hurt by getting the small population from football in early December. Overall the KHSAA is going to do what is best for high school athletes not a few but the whole and you will not see a change anytime soon, sorrry :sssh:
  22. I agree about having the players but in July not all football players are there yet if they are involved in AAU and travel baseball. A lot of states do not start playing basketball until football is done and remember it was not the football coaches that decided to extrend the season nor move it back. the KMA made that strong suggestion to the KHSAA and they moved it back due to the death of two football players in 3 years where it was believed that heat was a major contributing factor. I posted that I can see the Tuesday Friday deal in the first two rounds which if you did that would put you finishing Thanksgiving weekend. And just to verify Hazard did not cancel their game due to not having a team, they did so for the kids and school to go and support their football team at the state finals. I would imagine they will probably be out of school on Friday to go to Louisville.
  23. No offense but you have obviously never played in a physical football game nor prepared a team to play in the playoffs. Football could play a Tuesday and a Friday or Saturday game in the first two rounds but I would think you would need a week in between for the regional finals and the semi's and finals. Also the basketball schools and coaches get 4 days of turnament action where most are not in school, football gets 2 days, that is not fair but no one in football is whining about that. the bye week is gone, it is the first week in December next year and to me that is the best you are going to get. Football has given enough to basketball over the last couple of years. I don't see them getting their way with cahnging our playoff system. Our kids deserve to play in tournament play just like the rest of the sports. Here are some deserving basketball schools from last year that played in the playoffs in basketball last year: 16th region: w L Menifee County 1367 1847 3 - 22 - 0 0 - 13 - 0 0 - 8 - 0 Russell 1193 1745 3 - 26 - 0 2 - 19 - 0 1 - 5 - 0 15th region South Floyd 1512 2282 2 - 26 - 0 2 - 14 - 0 1 - 6 - 0 Piarist School 1012 1953 1 - 24 - 0 0 - 10 - 0 0 - 7 - 0 14th region Owsley County 1535 1755 5 - 21 - 0 3 - 15 - 0 0 - 7 - 0 Leslie County 1211 1555 4 - 21 - 0 1 - 12 - 0 0 - 5 - 0 13th region Owsley County 1535 1755 5 - 21 - 0 3 - 15 - 0 0 - 7 - 0 Leslie County 1211 1555 4 - 21 - 0 1 - 12 - 0 0 - 5 - 0 12th region Southwestern 1465 1785 5 - 23 - 0 4 - 16 - 0 2 - 6 - 0 Monticello 1407 1755 4 - 23 - 0 2 - 10 - 0 1 - 6 - 0 11th Region Madison Southern 1518 1800 6 - 23 - 0 3 - 6 - 0 3 - 3 - 0 Lafayette 1498 1823 4 - 21 - 0 1 - 14 - 0 1 - 8 - 0 Frankfort 1059 1453 2 - 21 - 0 1 - 11 - 0 0 - 7 - 0 10th region Pendleton County 1477 1904 7 - 21 - 0 4 - 15 - 0 4 - 1 - 0 Bracken County 1468 1758 5 - 23 - 0 4 - 16 - 0 0 - 6 - 0 Silver Grove 1410 1818 4 - 22 - 0 1 - 10 - 0 0 - 6 - 0 Paris 1022 1452 3 - 19 - 0 1 - 13 - 0 0 - 7 - 0 Nicholas County 1140 1537 3 - 21 - 0 2 - 10 - 0 0 - 6 - 0 9th region Heritage Academy 1287 1647 3 - 21 - 0 0 - 13 - 0 0 - 2 - 0 8th region Carroll County 1441 1629 7 - 19 - 0 5 - 14 - 0 1 - 7 - 0 Henry County 1406 1539 7 - 19 - 0 4 - 15 - 0 1 - 6 - 0 Williamstown 1376 1642 4 - 20 - 0 1 - 16 - 0 0 - 7 - 0 Eminence 1047 1643 2 - 23 - 0 0 - 10 - 0 0 - 4 - 0 7th region Kentucky Country Day 1255 1530 7 - 20 - 0 0 - 7 - 0 0 - 4 - 0 Fern Creek 1527 1734 6 - 19 - 0 3 - 9 - 0 2 - 2 - 0 St. Xavier 1269 1430 6 - 19 - 0 3 - 10 - 0 0 - 4 - 0 Whitefield Academy 1362 1720 6 - 20 - 0 1 - 9 - 0 1 - 3 - 0 6th region Doss 1220 1402 6 - 18 - 0 3 - 7 - 0 1 - 3 - 0 North Bullitt 1667 1896 6 - 22 - 0 3 - 9 - 0 2 - 9 - 0 Portland Christian 1418 2028 5 - 21 - 0 2 - 14 - 0 2 - 4 - 0 St. Francis 1267 2033 2 - 25 - 0 0 - 6 - 0 0 - 5 - 0 5th region Fort Knox 1535 1820 5 - 22 - 0 0 - 14 - 0 0 - 9 - 0 Caverna 1386 1689 4 - 22 - 0 2 - 14 - 0 0 - 7 - 0 4th region Monroe County 1540 1885 6 - 22 - 0 3 - 17 - 0 1 - 7 - 0 Logan County 1171 1775 2 - 25 - 0 0 - 14 - 0 0 - 7 - 0 3rd region Trinity (Whitesville) 1324 1464 7 - 18 - 0 4 - 14 - 0 1 - 6 - 0 Frederick Fraize 894 1722 0 - 24 - 0 0 - 18 - 0 0 - 7 - 0 (we have a winner 0-24 and made the playoffs) 2nd region Union County 1387 1731 6 - 22 - 0 3 - 11 - 0 1 - 4 - 0 Crittenden County 1104 1331 3 - 19 - 0 2 - 16 - 0 1 - 6 - 0 1st region Fulton County 1342 1509 6 - 19 - 0 5 - 15 - 0 0 - 9 - 0 Reidland 1345 1823 4 - 22 - 0 2 - 18 - 0 0 - 7 - 0 Ballard Memorial 1237 1502 2 - 21 - 0 2 - 15 - 0 0 - 7 - 0 Community Christian (Paducah) 1045 1943 0 - 25 - 0 0 - 17 - 0 0 - 7 - 0 (another 0-25 team taht made the playoffs) Just so you know I am an advid basketball fan who has had two sons play in high school in KY. I am not for changing anything that is good for kids. Football players getting to experience the playoff atomosphere is a great thing. I am also from a school who had a winning record last year and did not make the playoffs ( 1 of 2 teams) but I am not whining about it becasue we knew what we had to do to make the playoffs. In all othe sports all you have to do is play and you are in. At least in football some district do not take everyone, so I guess all is fair in my book
