What if the player is not talking to these scouting services? I'm sure college coaches have better things to do than call the scouts and brag about their new recruit. I just think way to much is based on if the player talks to the service and if he goes to these combines. Yes they should go, but I don't think the scouting services should be regarded as high as they are. I think the senior day camps that all colleges have in the summer is the way to go. Therefore the coaches see them and make decisions on who's good or not, not some "experts". Which brings me to my next question, who are these experts and what qualifications do they have????? *not trying to start an arguement, just like this conversation!

Good post: I agree with you 100% that the kids with a lot of stars have tons of talent. And yes, there are kids who peek at diff. times. I just still think a lot of kids who peek later, really had the talent in H.S and was overlooked. It is a hard call because thousands of H.S kids want to play in college. Also an example of people taking stars to seriously is if a kid has 2 stars and whoever gripes about the college should have gone after a 3 or 4 star kid. Trust the coaches, they offered the kid a scholly for a reason.

I do believe that the rating system for H.S. kids "stars" is way overrated. My opinion is this, the only way a kid to be ranked in the nation is by going to these H.S. "combines" so if you don't go one can't be ranked. And what makes these scouts experts, they are not college coaches or anything? Not saying the 4 or five star guys are not good, they are very good, however a kid from wherever can just be as good or better, but not ranked because he did not go to these "combines" and he could be as good or better than many "ranked kids" Do you agree or disagree and why.

I still can't believe Cincy passed on him. He is right in their back yard. But I guess it just shows you that the kicker position is one of "do we need to scholly a guy now or later." Ky had 3 kickers to D-1 colleges next year. Kid from Boling Green to WKU Kid from Trinity to UK PoP to Wake Thats a lot of kickers in one state to D-1
