Mayfield vs. Caldwell County @ Alliance Bowl
BadaBing replied to cardinalsvoice's topic in KY Football (High School)
The Paducah Sun indicated that the two starting halfbacks with be tyrese Murrell and Chad Saxton. Trevarthan will be out 6 to 8 weeks with a broken wrist so Saxton makes the move from fullback. I have no clue who will take over at fullback since Travis Brown is still injured. I see no reason why we wouldn't be able to stop Caldwell's running game. To me that seems like Caldwell's only legitimate way to score and it just so happens that Mayfield is usually dominant when it comes to rush defense. If we keep their running back in check Mayfield wins........ -
Mayfield vs. Caldwell County @ Alliance Bowl

Injuries have definitely put a glich in Mayfield's offense. From what I hear about there scrimmage with Owensboro, their defense is top notch right now. Hopefully they can find a way to put up 21-28 points. If that happens I think they will def win. If they have trouble scoring points it will be closer than people think...... Mayfield wins, 21-7. Good luck cards!!!! -

thanks for the insight on the first scrimmage everyone...I couldn't make it and have been real interested to see what the cards have to bring to the table this year.......it should be interesting....sounds like we better stay healthy if we want to have a successful year....... -
Somerset Coach Cries Foul On New Alignment
BadaBing replied to cammando's topic in KY Football (High School)
IMO, playing 5A or 6A teams doesn't wear you down......it prepares you for district play. I feel that is the only reason why Mayfield ever goes as far as they do into postseason play. -
Proposed 6 Class alignment (from KHSAA)

I guess people could just complain for the rest of their life......but it is not changing the fact that we are going to 6 classes. -

none taken. 5A and 6A look to be the more competitive classes in the West. However, 1A-4A look like one or two teams will come out every year (1A Mayfield, 2A O Catholic, 3A Pad. Tilghman, 4A who knows). All in all I think most people don't like 6 classes because they are so used to things being the way they always have been. But change is inevitable and this 6 class thing is going to happen so I think everyone better get used to the idea and find SOME kind of positive in this. -

your not kidding -
Under the six class system, should Beechwood move up to 2A?
BadaBing replied to theguru's topic in KY Football (High School)
1A district appears to be a cakewalk. But 2A would be lots more exciting...our rival Murray (we love beating the crap out of those guys), Trigg (since moving to 2A have really bulked up their program), Caldwell (we used to play them before our drop to 1A), and Heath (up and down program). Plus we always like meeting Dville in substate!!! So 2A sounds like much more fun. -
Under the six class system, should Beechwood move up to 2A?
BadaBing replied to theguru's topic in KY Football (High School)
It seems things will be changing again in the near future (5 or 6 yrs.) so it looks like May and Bchwood are stuck in 1A until then. Dnt worry Makaveli..........I think their integrity will remain intact....as should their success. -
Since I haven't officially posted my top ten: 1. NCC (#1 til they get beat) 2. Danville (lots of experience returning) T3. Beechwood (new coach should have continued success) T3. Mayfield (Kings of Region 1) 5. Somerset (?) 6. Lou Holy Cross (?) 7. Pikeville (?) 8. Lex. Christian Acad. (?) 9. Frankfort (?) 10. Bardstown (lost a lot I believe)

For those of you who only saw Mayfield play in state, they certainly didn't have their mojo at Papa John's. They were a much better team than they displayed, TRUST ME. However, it is hard to beat a team that plays mistake free like NCC did. They were just dang good.

Let me ask this....Winning Streak...
BadaBing replied to RockPride's topic in KY Football (High School)
No, thats part of each teams preparation for the playoffs. Playing the larger schools gets them battle ready for the important games at the end of the year. They will continue to schedule as they always have IMO. -
Well, from the standpoint of being a Mayfield fan, if we stay in 1A the road to Louisville SHOULD be more easily traveled. Beechwood and Mayfield would APPEAR to be the top two teams. That all depends on the alignment. It is also kind of sad to see the class change. 1A will be so watered down that I would almost want Mayfield to play up in 2A. it would be a much more competitive class.

essentially, Mayfield only has three away games, as the Graves Co. game is still played at War Memorial even though Mayfield is the away team. Caldwell, Fulton City, and Ballard Memorial are their only away games. It will be a plus to have homefield against the likes of Hoptown, tilghman, and Marshall. Those seem to be their toughest games, but I don't really know about Caldwell or Union Co. but I have a hunch they might field fairly decent teams this year. It will be an exciting year. It can't get here soon enough!!

the reputation of Mayfield's program speaks for itself.....they are a title contender every year. Yes, Ncc, beechwood, and Dville have been more consistent over the past five or so years. However, in terms of titles, NCc has a lot of catching up to do. Beechwood, Danville, and Mayfield have proved themselves already. How many titles does NCC have besides last year???????

Mayfield is always the favorite. But I will have to agree that they lost a substantial amount of their offensive backfield and Im not too sure about their defense. Hopefully the coaches will do as they have always done..........find a way to maximize the potential on their roster. Mayfield as of late has not had a talent DEEP roster, but they usually find a way around that.
-
You are right. Prob not always but I would say most of the time. If you are a champ once, that particular attitude and frame of mind tend to stick with you (once again most of the time).
-
To go along with the actual thread though.......I think Ncc has the advantage to win it all over Danville, strictly from a preseason standpoint. However, it seems that Danville lost close to nothing after graduation and that sounds pretty scary. IF Mayfield and Danville continue to do what they do best (play football), the Cards might have more than they can handle. BUT lets wait and see how the season goes..............
