  1. If the school does not pay for any sport how could the Title 9 folks be angry.
  2. Even Here on BGP:dancingpa:banana::dancingpa:ylsuper::notworthy::clap:
  3. Middle and High School I have no idea about Alabama and their budget concerns, but Kentucky is in way over their head. So an idea of cutting back would be to get rid of sports and let local communities hold teams.
  4. That is why I posted the thread in here the P/R! I know alot of people in here say they are conservative or liberal, which means they like spending money or don't on social programs, so I thought I would strike at the heart and find out where people really stand... kinda of put your money where your mouth is sort of thing,
  5. I would bet the top two will be there year in and year out, the last two will flip flop every couple of years or so.
  6. This one just needs a quick reply (IMO) What made this country great? A peoples reliance on God and His Son Jesus Christ!
  7. Part one of highlighted: Which one is more likely earning a scholarship for college academics or sports? Part two of the highlighted: I would suggest that some kids should not be in school, trade/vocational school might be a better place for those students, school is for academics, its purpose for its creation, I am sorry if I came across offensive. Part three of the highlighted: Times are hard, ask the state that wishes to cut programs, I think it would only be fair to also ask schools to cut programs as well. If I must pick between athletics and academics I will pick academics everytime, but that is my opinion.
  8. I agree raise taxes or make these choices... and I am curious to see where people stand on this issue, free choice at its best.
  9. They pay for those things, lets just talk about football alone. Coaches, let's say the head man makes 6,000 to 10,000 a year, an assistant makes 1,000-4,000 times that by two (school can not afford more), middle school coach 1,000-3,000. There is 21,000 dollars on the high end, spent on a sport. Now let us combine that with girls basketball, 10,000 (because of title nine, two other coaches (4,000) and a middle school coach (3,000) again 21,000, 42,000 ( a teacher's position) so far, now let us add a boys basketball (63,000 all together, Baseball and Softball equals a grand total high end $75,000. We have not talked about what it takes to maintain or get new facilities nor have we talked about how much gas it takes on a bus and a driver to get somewhere... I just think that is alot of money. Conservatives would agree, I would hope. Now people have said why waste money on a system that is broken. I never was talking about educational reform, but let us say that the reform could take place, would you use that money then. Finally, as for the notion that people will become professional athletes well my only response is:ohbrother: You teach music and art not to make a career out of it, but to enhance thinking skills not saying any other sport doesn't but I would bet on the fact that music students and art students have a better GPA ( again a guess, or an opinion)
  10. Do you believe that they are one and the same, schools are dumping music programs and art programs, but have sport programs...hmm
  11. But didn't we cut music and art:confused:
  12. I just wanted to point out that I never said to cut P.E.! The reason I started this thread is to see if people thought long and hard about how we use money is school. Sports seems to never get talked about in that reguard, so I am curious if the BGPers thought maybe money is wasted in reguards to education.
  13. With all of the recession talk going on and schools talking about budgets and so forth. Is it time to cut sports from schools and use that money elsewhere? If sports are done away with at school where would you like to see the money being used? What say you?
  14. I think that North Laurel and South Laurel need to be in same region, say the 12th?
  15. This is one of the best threads I have ever read!
  16. All I got to say is Welcome to the party :dancingpa:dancingpa:dancingpa:ylsuper::ylsuper::notworthy::thumb: :clap: I have joined the party for exactly the reasons posted above!
  17. I think that this is interesting! I would suggest that curiousity would be the starting point. Just a thought though!
  18. Yes, some large districts have low student to teacher ratios but the question on the floor is how would you stimulate the economy. If you build more schools, that means more people to clean, more teachers, more cooks, more bus drivers, more administration, in other words more jobs. (which I would think would benefit the nation in the long run). The construction on the schools would allow for more jobs, granted for a short time but none the less more jobs... plummers, electritions, etc. As for the bolded part, I would think it would be a mathematical equation, I did not intend to take a jab at large school districts at all:thumb:
  19. I would think yes, especially if it is a starting point for a relationship with Our Father.
  20. I would build more schools. I would put a cap on school size around 800 per building.( I would hope this would destroy the idea of districts. I would also make all sports apart of community leagues not used by the schools.(sorry if people can not afford, tough) I would also cap teacher pay at 45,000 for Bachelors, 65,000 for masters paid by the tax payers, 75,000 for Rank I and 85,000 for PHD, 95,000 National Certified. and PHD. (Guess which one I have:D) Think about this, more school's equal construction equal construction jobs. Schools mean teachers, janitors, principals, and other jobs(sp). Smaller schools equal more one on one education, which in turn means a better product. More educated people educating, what a novel idea. No sports so funding could be used elsewhere, say in the classroom... interesting! All paid for by the U.S citizens. Which in turn goes back out into the communities, which in turn goes back to the citizens.
  21. This is a very interesting question. However, I feel that there are two answers. If a believer has renounced his faith, I believe that the scripture is very clear on this. Paraphrasing here, but Jesus said if you deny me, I deny you. However, your question is more deeper than that. There is alot of talk about the works of a christian , the tithing, bible study, and so forth. I would suggest that is wonderful these works and christian should do these... but... these works are not what makes anyone a christian, but you already know this. I would suggest that the works teach us to very important things 1. to know our Father more, and 2. how to love. So a christian falls from the works (and does not renounce their faith), but comes back. Does he or she need to be baptized? I would say no, because I believe it is a continuation of the spirit working which will continue to work until the day He returns.
  22. Does anyone know who is playing who yet? I know that the coin flip between South and Corbin is today but hadn't heard any news on it.
  23. These are some very interesting thoughts to say the least! I just have two very simple thoughts 1. Love God with all of your heart mind and spirit 2. Love your neighbor as yourself. This is the image all christians should strive for, but to actually understand what these two laws mean... well, by grace of His Spirit I pray that all people would understand what is meant. Then, to figure out divorce would not even be a priority.
