I agree. I was only saying that his "base defense" (meaning the one he is in 85% of the time) is a 5-2. As far as being based off of a 3-4, I can see that as well. I agree on the QB as well...

I agree. I know he isn't an option style QB but does anyone know if the Caldwell kid is back in the weight room this year? I know he had some promise as a freshman and then he didn't play last year for some reason. I don't know much about his speed but his arm isn't bad...

Haha, I agree 100%. Best for the county schools to just keep it seperate until they get the new school up and running. Does anyone know how they are looking as far as meeting their deadline right now on the construction?

Yes and no. W/O giving away his entire scheme of coverages I will let you know that he has one coverage that he likes to use in which the corner and the safety do some "reading." However, most of the time this will result in the corner and the safety each being locked on a receiver (especially in a twins/trips/quads set) and virtualy no zone coverage being played at all. So it is pretty much a variation of a man coverage, just disguised fairly well for those who don't know the system since it will look like cover 2 in certain situations.

This is very true. Not much zone out of this guy at all. Only man for the most part. He likes cover 2 against option style teams and cover 4 against deep passing teams (both are pretty rare anymore).

I will agree with most of your comment and I would like to see Harlan go deeper into the playoffs myself. However, if my memory serves me correctly, Harlan has done the best against out of county competition compared to any of the rest of the county teams. In 1999 they went to the regional championship game (barely lost to Pikeville), in 2000 they went to the semi-finals (lost to Fleming Neon in a blowout), in 2004 they went to the semi-finals (lost by 12-13 to Pikeville), and this year they lost pretty big to Somerset. However, I can't remember the last time Cumberland, Cawood, or Evarts went beyond the first round. So while I agree that I would like to see them get to at least the third round every year, I think that the "Notre Dame of the South" has faired a lot better than the others in the county. Don’t you think so Pappy? Again, nothing personal, just taking up for my school.

He only goes to a 3-4 look if he is going up against a team like Williamsburg in the past who throws the ball 50+ times a game. He likes to stay in a 5-2 look as much as possible. He also has a 4-3 package where he drops the weak side end off to a LB. The only time he really uses this is against teams that are very balanced and like to run I-formation football. As far as his triple option offense it concerned, I look for him to run more of a belly option type offense, mostly out of the I and split-backs, like he and his brother did when they were at Garrard County. It isn't going to be the Air Force Academy wish/flex bone triple option offense that I think a lot of people are expecting. Overall though, I look for him to adjust his system according to the types of players he has on the offensive side of the ball.

Cumberland has lost to Harlan the last two years but had a four game win streak before then.

I'm all about going back to home schooling actually... Add pure anarchy to that list as well. I guess I hate all forms of government... Also, if you are going to say that I am attacking someone while "hiding behind a screen name," I think that you just did the same... Now, let's get back on topic for good... I think Tim Saylor was a great coach and I never said that he wasn't. Anyone who did what he did, as a coach, deserves consideration for this job. However, I doubt that it will happen just because I think that he has been out of the coaching ring for too long. I am like some others in this thread who believe that the only Saylor who will ever coach at the new school will be his son Jacob, and that will be sometime down the road.

First of all, I may not know all there is to know about Tim and I don't care if I ever do. I only see him when he is jogging on the side of the road and I hear him on the radio once in a blue moon. What I do know a lot about (which your reply tells me that you don't) is leadership. If Timmy is in charge of the school district, he is responsible for everything that it does/doesn't do. That means if some how Cawood wins a state football title, Tim would be seen by many as being responsible for the district’s hiring of Eric Perry. However, that also means that he is responsible for not only the horrible financial record that the district has, but also its bottom of the barrel test scores. For you to come out and tell me that I have a personal vendetta against him shows that you not only have no idea what you are talking about, but that you are also looking for an argument. Maybe what I said was out of line a bit, but it was also a statement of fact. Tim has been in his position long enough now to fix many of the schools financial problems if he truly wanted to. I am not saying that he wants the school system to go broke but I am saying that the blame should fall on the head of the organization and not necessarily the board. If he was such a good leader he would have been able to convince the members of his views and then stopped the non-resident contract with Harlan from passing. He would also do more to crack down on the district's massive problem with truancy (believe it or not, that costs a load of money too). Obviously that isn't the boards fault and Tim could have done a lot more to fix it. So if you want to blame the financial situation in the county on the board's passing of the contract with Harlan... remember that there is a reason that a larger percentage of kids from the county choose to go to the city schools than visa versa. Just a thought....

Just a life lesson here Cawoodball player… I understand that you have some sources in the county system and that you truly don't believe that Timmy will be the coach at HCHS. I personally don't care... BUT I will tell you this; if you take people for their word (especially in athletics) you will be disappointed nine times out of ten. One needs to look no further for an example of this than the SEC's very own Nick Saban. I respect your opinion and I tend to agree with you on this topic. However, I think that these people in this thread have some valid points as to why they think Timmy will become the first coach at HCHS. After all, it would be a good way for him to redeem his failure in management financially by establishing a good base for the schools athletic program.

I never thought I would see this day. Coach Perry definitely used to not be a Cawood fan, even more so than some of the other coaches at Harlan. I am happy for him getting a chance to be a HC, but this one is going to hurt (and I mean HURT) Harlan starting next year. To a Harlan fan this is like Pitino skipping the Celtics and going straight from UK to U of L. I see this hire as definitely being the first HC at the new school. However, as a Harlan follower I have to say, et tu Eric?
