  1. I will say from an insider’s view that the cadets at the academies could care less. I am currently in my third year at West Point/Army and I have much more to worry about in my life than some drunken kids chanting at my school. As a cadet I will say that I, and all the midshipmen at Navy, thank all of you who are respectful to us in both public and private settings. However, one of the reason's I am at this academy is so that people like the fans in question at Rutgers can chant whatever it is they want to at us. Heck, it is just football anyway. I know Army plays Rutgers later on this year so I will see how that goes. Go Army, Beat Navy!! :thumb:
  2. 42-38 Gators (Neither team can stop anyone.)
  3. You're right that Dunbar has great facilities to play on but let me bring some things to your attention that you may not realize. Coach Hensley has to fight tooth and nail to get practice time on the football field each day with mens and womens soccer among other teams. This means that he gets a total of about 2 hours to practice and prepare his team for one of the hardest schedules in the state. Yes for those of you who do not know PLD does not have a practice field. Kind of odd that I come from a class A school that can have one but for some reason a 6A school can't. I know for a fact that the day before PLD had their grid against West Jessamine they had to do a walk through in the atrium of the school because girls soccer had the field. I also know that they have been forced to go into the gym numerous times due to scheduling. If you want to talk telent and how much you think that school has then that is open to speculation. However, practicing 2 teams (Frosh and Varsity) on 100 yards of playing surface is kind of difficult and puts Coach Hensley betweena rock and hard place.
  4. It is by far the closest one. I want to say that Harlan is up by one or two but I am not sure.
  5. Congrats to the wildcats... I hate to see Harlan end the series with each of the county schools with a loss but it looks like that is going to be the case. I know this has to be killing Coach Donahue since he has had a streak of about 3 failry good teams in the last 3 years but he'll be okay. The talent level just fluctuates at small schools. Heck, look at Evarts. It is just going to be a long season in dragon land....
  6. Haha that sounds like some other story. Please inform us all...
  7. Harlan has really got to win this game. Traditionally whoever wins this game is in good shape for the rest of the year and will finish 1st or 2nd in he district. I know that the district has changed a lot with the addition of Hazard so I see the winner of this game being 3rd in the district (behind Hazard and Cumberland) and the looser sitting at home come November. Evarts has shown that they are a much improved team but Harlan has shown that they are very much rebuilding. I wouldn't be suprised to see Harlan come out in the Power-I with two TE's and go back to doing what they have traditionaly done best. Bottom Line Up Front, Harlan has got to find a way to score some points, move the ball, not turn it over, and keep the defense rested. Harlan's QB has got to step up, become of the leader of this team, and salvage the season before they get their first 0-3 start that I can remember in a very long time. I think Harlan may turn it around in this game, they pretty much have to... Harlan 28 Evarts 21
  8. If it was a ligitimate scrimage that Lee beat Apalachia in then I am worried about the big green lizards. The last time Harlan went to Apalachia was in 2000 and it was something equivalent to a masacre. I know that Apalachia probably isn't as good this year as they were in 2000 but to think that Powell Valley and Apalachia are down in the same year is probably a stretch.I'll get back with a prediction on this one soon.
  9. The other game in the PigSkin (Middlesboro vs Knox Central) should/could be pretty good too.
  10. If this game is even close I will be shocked. Dudley 49-7.
  11. I think this game will be closer than what everyone is thinking. Corbin has a tendency to start out slow though (They have scored a whopping 3 points in their past three opening games, and lost their first 3-4 each season) which I think will be the difference. I doubt that Coach Hensley and his staff are counting on a 2 touchdown + victory in this one. After all the Belfry team that Corbin got shut out by could blank a lot of teams in the state. I'll take PLD in a close one PLD 17 (Late FG by their stud kicker) Corbin 14
  12. I don't know where everyone else is that you mentioned but I sure hope the rumor you heard is true... In all seriousness thought I see this one going down to the wire. I think both defenses are about the same but I think Harlan's offense has the advantage in the passing game and that they plan to exploit that in this game. With that being said I look for good old Benedict.., excuse me, Eric Perry to have some tricks up his sleeve compared to his traditional few blitzes that he threw in at Harlan. I wouldn't be surprised if Cawood brought 6-7 players every passing situation against a very inexperienced Harlan O-line. I haven't seen Cawood play but just because I am an "Old Grad" from Harlan, and I don't see Lucifer putting on his winter coat, I am going to take the Green reptiles in this one 21-14.
  13. Maybe this is on here somewhere else but I can't find it... How did Dunbar do in the grid this past Friday?
  14. That is the gospel, thank you brother MTN. I think instead of a trophy the loosing team should have to get each player on the winning team the 5 roast beef for $5.95 deal (for a limited time only, see your local participating Rax restaurant). Rax can attribute its longevity in Harlan to the crowd headed by HDE's father and David L. Davies, who is THE director of THE "world renowned" Harlan Boys Choir (NG, QB, MTN and probably even pappy know all about him), who are out there almost every night.
  15. Anyone know when/where the next 7 on 7 is going to be? Thanks.
  16. - And with the first pick in the 2007 Gov's Cup Draft, Harlan High School selects NG73 due to his high test scores
  17. Good to see that Pineville's new coach is getting his kids involved in an off season program. I've heard a lot of good things about him from people in the region. Hopefully he can get that program (which is one with a stellar history) back on the right track.
  18. I agree, I was only saying that there might be fear of bias by players coming in from another school. While this may not be the case, there is always going to be some fear from high school aged kids about bias being present. Looking from the outside in, I don't believe that any of the existing three coaches would have bias towards their old schools. However, I am just trying to put myself in the shoes of a kid who might be going to the new school. Overall, I agree with you though about winning being the main goal of a coach.
  19. I never said he wouldn't be involved, just not the head coach... I personaly think he will be the first D-coordinator.
  20. Is there really a proven candidate inside the system to be a head football coach? Also, how many kids from Cumberland and Evarts are going to play for Coach Perry? How many from Cawood and Cumberland are going to play for Coach Canady? I think they will try to find a proven coach to start the program off on the right foot without the kids having to fear an existing coach being biased towards his old school's players. Bringing in someone from inside the system as an assistant may not be a bad idea, but as a HC? I don't think that's really an option at this point in time.
  21. Some good points about the possibility of a practice field being put up there. I know that sod isn't cheap but someone could probably donate what grading that would be needed. Another question is what would they use as a locker room? Basketball locker rooms wouldn't be big enough to accommodate a 60+ person team for showering and storage. They would also probably have to share it with the basketball team(s). Therefore, I see them most likely using Cawood for a practice facility and game facility because of the field house that is already there. Just a thought...
  22. Complete guess, but I will go with Ken Roark of Middlesboro after the '98 semi's...
  23. Haha, soft for me is 110% for you.
  24. Hey don't underestimate the power of Justin (Eugene) Curry. I've seen him coach his was through some hellacious backyard battles.
