Well, you know he really is - which makes his untimely injury that much worse. But if last night was any indication - the back seems to be getting better during game play (albiet the soreness afterwards.) Tonight should be a good indicator of how its coming along and how ready he'll be for the 56th district tournament and those wonderful announcers up in Beatyville. :thumb:

This score screams 3 things at me. 1) June Buchanan is showing poor form in running up a score on three teams that they shouldnt even bother scheduling - let alone 2 times each. 2) This poor form is obviously in an effort to A) Add to the statbooks B) Add to the wins column. There is absolutely nothing to be learned or earned at JBS from playing teams like Riverside, David, and Piarist. I've never had a problem with scheduling a couple tune up games - but when you schedule three tune up teams two times ach with in the span or a month 2 and a half months - it really goes to show how opportunistic JBS is being in scheduling walk over teams to boost their own look. 3) This will no doubt hurt June in the long run. A team that goes from playing 6 games that they outscored their opponets by nearly 300 points to playing stiff competition such as Knott County Centrall, Cordia, and Letcher Central - will run into the preverbial wall. A team that has played those kinds of games end up without the gaul to play tough teams down the stretch - and it more than not - will end in an early district loss. June Buchanan should have a good record and good stats regardless of playing this cupcake schedule - and the coaches and AD at JBS should look at that and think good and hard before scheduling such a murder..ing row next year.

I will be Irvine for their game with Jackson City tonight - and will be paying close attention to Dixon - I'll be sure to have a report on his health tonight.

That will rely heavily on that back of Dixon's...and which Engineer team shows up. When they are on their game - they can absolutely play incredible basketball...like the game with Cordia and the last quarter/OT with Powell....but when they dont come with the proper head - they play like they did in Breathitt.

I agree.....a ride to Cumberland and then back to Irvine before playing what is sure to be a tough game with Jackson City is going to be tough on a sore back.

Was this game canceled or anything? I dont see the score on Khsaa.

Well let's look at who those 12 losses came from. 1. Clark County who has one of the best players in the state in Preston Knowles and who would be heavily favored above any 14th region team. 2. Paul Dunbar - a lexington powerhouse who Estill lost to by 3.' 3. Lee County - missed a three to tie. 4. A series of losses at the Johnson Central tournament to hometown Johnston and Lee again. 5. Florida powerhouse Columbia 6. Tennesee Powerhouse Memphis Sheffield 7. Lee County in Beatyville 8. Montgomery @ Montgomery 9. Southern by 1 10. Hazard in 0T with an injured dixon 11. @ Breathitt with an injured Dixon. Estill County played one of the toughest schedules ouside of the 11th region in the entire state - and with a health Dixon can beat anyone.

He was said to be confident to be about 90% tonight - but feeling sore on the ride back to Irvine. He has a scheduled visit with the Cumberland school and basketball program in the morning. He will have a busy week this week with a second last home game with Jackson City and then a date with the pirates of Berea Friday - so we'll see if he can work his way to 100%.

Looks like Estill led most of the way opening up a double digit lead early....and were said to be playing very smart basketball. Something they lacked in their unfocused loss to Breathitt. Hazard chipped away at the lead and tied it late in the game when a Hazard player smacked an inbounce pass into Dixons hands which was rulled a double dribble by the refs - which apparently got a disagreeing fan thrown out. So Hazard got an inbounds pass which was broken up by Berryman and stolen...but he could not get a shot off before the buzzer sounded sending this one into OT. Then in OT - with Dixon on the mend - Estill just couldnt come up with decent shots and Hazard took control and pulled away in the end with the 8 point victory.

Estill took Hazard to OT tonight without a healthy Dixon who is - when healthy the best all around player in the region. They have a slew of experienced scorers and play great D - and are excellently coached.

TFRF's Top 10 1) Lee County - If and when the bobcats make it to Hindman it will be up to them to prove that they can play the way they do in Beatyville on a neutral court. 2) Estill County - Call me crazy - and I have taken this team under my praiseful wing as of late - but I still think a healthy Clinton Dixon is the best player in the region and a healthy and focused Estill County is one of the two best teams in the 14th. 3) Hazard - Exactly like Professor pointed out. As Hicks goes...as does Hazard. 4) Perry County Central - A balanced team - but drew Hazard in the first round of districts - and I'm taking the bulldogs. 5) June Buchanan - Very respectable regional record. Health issues could be a concern - but could very well come into the region as a dark horse. 6) Letcher County Central - a strong team that just happens to be lost in the shuffle of their district. 7) Buckhorn - at times come with an explosive offense that over the season has outscored their opponets by nearly 250 points. 8) Jackson City - an impressive record with several impressive win streaks. a good team that will need to prove itself against estill tomorrow. 9) Knott Co. Central - will be playing at home if they make it to regionals. inexperience is their biggest weakness 10) Cordia - a team that will need to play as well as they did against Jackson City to make noise. Sense the 82 Foodmart they have have went 4-5 in the region with 2 of the wins coming against 0-8 in the region Riverside. 10)

Hoosiers - Set the standard for what all sports movies would be.

That's bad news about the twins being out - but Lee still has quality scorers in Rich, Fetters, and others. They could make a game of it.

Well you know, Breathitt really did get on the boards better than Estill. Infact, they outhusstled the Engineers all night for the most part...and I think that just goes to show how unfocused Estill was. I'm not sure if they were just overlooking Breathitt or there was some team conflict that cost them their focus...but it sure knocked them for a loop. As far as Dixon goes - he was the only real spark Estill had aside Hoover...but his back seems to be in terrible shape. I seen him several times holding his lower back as he made his way to the bench and he seemed to slouch in his seat to keep any pressure off it - and if I'm not mistaken he didnt warm up with the team at the beginning of the 2nd half. I thought for his situation he played a great game.

Knotts coming off a hard fault game with Owsley - Breathitt is coming off a thumping of Estill....it's pretty much a toss up - but I'll take the Bobcats of Breathitt.

I have noticed quite the opposite from refs in the 14th region. Not that they are any better by any stretch of the imagintination but I keep seeing petty bumps called for fouls and hand checks when the game should be continued. I also have a problem with charges being called under the goal - which happens quite frequently in Eastern Kentucky.

Has Mayo expressed interest in moving to Oak Hill? I thought the reason he and Walker chose North College Hill was its small down feel with its big city proximity. I dont think Oak Hill offers either.

A very entertaining one it was. Regardless, Montgomery had and in all likelyhood will return a very solid team this year. Conyers is one of the better coaches in Central Kentucky and Thornberry and a few of the other young guys can really play when they are on their game. Good look over in Mt. Sterling. :thumb:

Not shocked that Oak Hill pulled off the win - but when Mayo and Walker combine for nearly 70 points and still get by 14 - that is just down right astonishing. Way to go Oak Hill.

I'm a little surprised that Cordia pulled this one off, especially sense it was on the road. I know Cordia is more of a home court team so props to cordia for pulling off a big win in Jackson.

It is a really weak region. Estill played each other in the finals of both singles and doubles. Estill did pick up one win @ Montgomery last year when Junior Jeremiah Spivey defeated their 3 seed.

Again - Clark County's Preston Knowles is probably the best junior in the state and a top 5 player over all - and you dont have him in your top 10?
