1 Lee County (solid team but must keep Rich out of foul trouble...they have to have him)

1 Leslie County (if Hubbard can come back healthy they will be hard to keep from playing in Rupp)

3 Perry Central (well balanced team, but Amis can't have an off night)

4 Hazard (The Bulldogs go as Hicks goes...if he has an off night....

5 June Buchanan (higher if their big kid wasn't hurt)

6 Jackson City (impressive team. Don't pay too much attention to the Cordia loss by a tired bunch of Tigers playing their 3rd game in 5 days)

7 Estill County (but Dixon's back had better get better)

8 Letcher Central (I thought they would be better this year. Williams leaving the team really hurt)

9 Cordia (a very dangerous team.....ask Jackson City)

10 Knott Central (A young team who will be to reckon with, but not this year)

TFRF's Top 10

 

1) Lee County - If and when the bobcats make it to Hindman it will be up to them to prove that they can play the way they do in Beatyville on a neutral court.

 

2) Estill County - Call me crazy - and I have taken this team under my praiseful wing as of late - but I still think a healthy Clinton Dixon is the best player in the region and a healthy and focused Estill County is one of the two best teams in the 14th.

 

3) Hazard - Exactly like Professor pointed out. As Hicks goes...as does Hazard.

 

4) Perry County Central - A balanced team - but drew Hazard in the first round of districts - and I'm taking the bulldogs.

 

5) June Buchanan - Very respectable regional record. Health issues could be a concern - but could very well come into the region as a dark horse.

 

6) Letcher County Central - a strong team that just happens to be lost in the shuffle of their district.

 

7) Buckhorn - at times come with an explosive offense that over the season has outscored their opponets by nearly 250 points.

 

8) Jackson City - an impressive record with several impressive win streaks. a good team that will need to prove itself against estill tomorrow.

 

9) Knott Co. Central - will be playing at home if they make it to regionals. inexperience is their biggest weakness

 

10) Cordia - a team that will need to play as well as they did against Jackson City to make noise. Sense the 82 Foodmart they have have went 4-5 in the region with 2 of the wins coming against 0-8 in the region Riverside.

Thanks about the comment on the Tigers Professor, and it was their 4th game in 5 days:

Tue: Owsley

Wed: Betsy Layne

Fri: Buckhorn

Sat: Cordia

Cordia does have a good ball club, but the Tigers were pretty wore down also.

1.) Leslie- have the expeirnce and the size, get everyone back from last year and they have another big run at Rupp.

 

2.) Lee- expierence has really been building up this year and they seem to really play big in big games of late.

 

3.)Perry- This team has tradition and as always led by IMO the best coach in the region in Holland.

 

4.)Estill- if Dixon comes back then they have a shot....no Dixon then Powell's season might last past the first game of distric.

 

5.)Hazard- ..............Hicks......thats as far as they go.

 

6.) Jackson City- been solid all year. Seems to be coming together as late. New coach really done a fine job. He's just building for next as he improves.

 

7/8/9.) Knott Co. /Buckhorn/June B- all 3 teams have shown up and won some big games. Buckhorn gaining big games expierence in the All A and at perry. Knott coming up some with some unexpected wins and playing on your home floor is never a bad thing.The teams get a little out of control at times but seems to be very dangerous. Without Big boy making a big shot changes down low and pulling down some major boards, the guards at June B. are gonna have a lot of trouble come tournament time. (With Collins at June B. they would be much higher.)

 

10.)Codia- always gives good teams a hard time but hard to say how far they'll go. They might be 10 on my list but come tournament time this team gets hot then who knows how far they go(Rupp is not out of the question)

 

I dont know about winning the big finale, but Letcher Central, Owsley(with Neeley) ,Wolfe(with Gilbert) and Breathitt catching fire lately these teams make my honorable metions list.

 

*Any of these teams caould make some loud noise come late Febuary early March.

I originally had them at 5, but all this talk about Dixon's sore back has me concerned. A bad back is not like a sprained ankle where you can tape it up. Estill really needs a healthy Dixon. If he's in top form then they are a very dangerous team and easily in the top 5 somewhere.

I will be Irvine for their game with Jackson City tonight - and will be paying close attention to Dixon - I'll be sure to have a report on his health tonight.
